  1. 11. Primary Hyperparathyroidism : Prevalence and Associated Morbidity in Middle-Aged Women and Elderly Men

    Författare :Helene Siilin; Ewa Lundgren; Östen Ljunggren; Johan Westerdahl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Primary hyperparathyroidism; menopausal; bone mineral density; physical performance; parathyroid hormone; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is a common endocrine disease, existing in both genders and in all age groups. Postmenopausal women are at particular risk of developing the disease and estrogen decline after menopause is suggested to affect the progress. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Molecular aspects of parathyroid tumorigenesis : with focus on parafibromin and the Wnt pathway

    Författare :Christofer Juhlin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) denotes the tumorous enlargement of one or several parathyroid glands and constitutes a common disorder, particularly pronounced among postmenopausal women. PHPT patients display hypercalcemia as a consequence of parathyroid hormone hypersecretion, and the symptomatology is habitually based on this metabolic aberrancy. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Preoperative localisation of parathyroid adenoma in primary hyperparathyroidism using 99mTc-sestamibi SPECT/CT : an evolving scanning protocol

    Författare :Patricia Sandqvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) is caused by one or more hyperfunctional parathyroid gland causing an inappropriately high release of parathyroid hormone (PTH) in relation to the calcium concentration in the blood. PTH acts on the bones to release more calcium and on the kidneys to reabsorb calcium, causing hypercalcemia. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Functional studies of the multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 gene

    Författare :Lovisa Bylund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEN1; menin; tumor suppressor gene; cancer; RNAi; promoter; expression; cytogenetic; microarray;

    Sammanfattning : The multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1, OMIM 131 100) syndrome is an autosomal dominant trait with a near 100% penetrance and with an estimated prevalence of 2-20/100 000. The syndrome is characterized by neoplasia affecting the parathyroid glands (90-97%), enteropancreatic endocrine tissues (30-80%) and the anterior pituitary gland (15-50%) but tumors arc also found in other, both endocrine and non endocrine tissues.
