1. Improved utilisation of grass silage in milk production : harvesting strategy and feeding value
Sammanfattning : The aim of the studies reported in this thesis was to optimise grass silage utilisation in milk production. In the first paper of this thesis data from digestibility trials with sheep fed at maintenance level were used to investigate the effect of forage type and harvesting time of silage on energy and N metabolism. 2. Technologies and Architectures of the Internet-of-Things (IoT) for Health and Well-being
Sammanfattning : The emerging technology breakthrough of the Internet-of-Things (IoT) is expected to offer promising solutions for food supply chain (FSC) and in-home healthcare (IHH), which may significantly contribute to human health and well-being. In this thesis, we have investigated the technologies and architectures of the IoT for these two applications as so-called Food-IoT and Health-IoT respectively. LÄS MER
3. Computational Studies of Cellulose-based Materials
Sammanfattning : Cellulose is a remarkable organic biopolymer and sustainable raw material existing in nature. Over the past several decades, the study of cellulose materials has attracted significant attention in chemistry, physics, biomedicine, and engineering fields. LÄS MER
4. Studies of the tumor-vasculature interface : role of TGF-beta 1-induced epithelial to mesenchymal transition
Sammanfattning : Tumor metastasis is a complex multistep process. Among key steps that occur during metastatic spread are acquisition of tumor cell motility, intravasation of tumor cells into blood or lymphatic vessels and extravasation of tumor cells at distal sites. However, the precise mechanisms that govern these metastatic steps remain elusive. LÄS MER
5. A functional genomics approach to study prostate disorders
Sammanfattning : Benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer (PCa) are the two most common prostatic disorders in elderly man. Currently, the causes of both diseases are still not clear. However, androgen is a well recognized risk factor for both diseases. LÄS MER
