  1. 6. The Gastrin-ECL Cell Axis. Functional Aspects

    Författare :Maria Björkqvist; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi; Pharmacological sciences; Calcium channels; CCK receptor antagonists; Misoprostol; Galanin; Somatostatin; Pancreastatin; Histamine; VIP; Gastrin; PACAP;

    Sammanfattning : The ECL cells constitute a prominent endocrine cell population in the acid-producing part of the stomach. They are controlled by circulating gastrin released from G-cells in the antrum. In response to gastrin, they secrete histamine, that in turn stimulates the parietal cell to secrete acid. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Biochemical characterisation and clinical correlation of neuropeptides in neuroblastoma with emphasis on neuropeptide Y

    Författare :Per Bjellerup; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :chromatography; CPON; ganglioneuroma; mass spectrometry; neuroblastoma; neuropeptide Y; pancreastatin; phaeochromocytoma; primary structure; radioimmunoassay; somatostatin; vasoactive intestinal peptide;

    Sammanfattning : Neuropeptides influence cellular events involved in tumour growth and differentiation. Neuroblastoma, a malignant childhood tumour of neural crest origin, synthesises and releases monoamines and neuropeptides. The concentrations of some of these neuropeptides in plasma are correlated to clinical stage and outcome. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Neurohormonal Modulators in the Parathyroid Gland. Localization and regulation

    Författare :Lena Luts; Malmö Patologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Receptor; In situ hybridization; Immunocytochemistry; Nitric Oxide Synthase; Endothelin; Neuropeptides; Chromogranin; Parathyroid adenoma; Parathyroid gland; Parathyroid hormone; mRNA; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : The occurrence and distribution of neurohormonal peptides, neuroendocrine markers and receptors in parathyroid nerve fibers and endocrine cells are described, using immunocytochemistry, in situ hybridization, image analysis and reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. Immunocytochemical studies revealed that parathyroid glands of chicken, rat, guinea-pig, cat, dog and sheep contained adrenergic-, cholinergic-, and peptide-containing nerve fibers. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Studies of neuropeptides in pancreatic beta cell function with special emphasis on islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP)

    Författare :Ella Karlsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; alpha cell; amylin; beta cell; chromogranin; growth; IAPP; insulin; islet amyloid polypeptide; leptin; NOD mice; pancreastatin; pancreatic islet; proliferation; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The presence of protein amyloid in pancreas and its association to diabetes was first described 100 years ago in 1901, but was not identified as Islet Amyloid Polypeptide (IAPP) until 1986. The aim of the present work was to determine the role of the beta cell hormone, IAPP, in normal pancreatic islet physiology and during early disturbances of islet function. LÄS MER

  5. 10. The exocytotic and crinophagic pathways in ECL cells of the rat stomach

    Författare :Chun-Mei Zhao; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; toxicology; ECL cells - Exocytosis - Crinophagia - Histamine - Gastrin - Morphometry - Stomach - Ultrastrucuture; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; Pharmacological sciences; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : The ECL cells in the stomach produce, store and secrete a variety of secretory products, such as histamine and chromogranin A-derived peptides (e.g. pancreastatin). The functional significance of the ECL cells can be expected to reflect the nature/bioactivity of the secreted products. LÄS MER
