    Författare :Madeleine Ramstedt; Staffan Sjöberg; Per Persson; Lars Lövgren; Steven A. Banwart; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic chemistry; manganite; γ-MnOOH; mineral surface; acid-base properties; adsorption; Cd II ; N- phosphonomethyl glycine; glyphosate; PMG; surface complex; dissolution; disproportionation; XPS; EXAFS; infrared spectroscopy; SEM; AFM; potentiometry; electrophoresis; Oorganisk kemi; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi; oorganisk kemi; Inorganic Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The chemistry of mineral surfaces is of great importance in many different areas including natural processes occurring in oceans, rivers, lakes and soils. Manganese (hydr)oxides are one important group to these natural processes, and the thermodynamically most stable trivalent manganese (hydr)oxide, manganit (γ-MnOOH), is studied in this thesis. 2. 2. Modeling of glyphosate and metal-glyphosate speciation in solution and at solution-mineral interfaces

    Författare :Caroline Jonsson; Staffan Sjöberg; Per Persson; Bernd Nowack; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; herbicide; glyphosate; surface complexation model; speciation; goethite; aged gamma-alumina; bayerite; manganite; cadmium II ; aluminium III ; potentiometric titration; adsorption; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Glyphosate (N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine, PMG, H3L) is a widely used organophosphorous herbicide. It interacts with metal ions and mineral surfaces, which may affect its mobility, degradation and bioavailability in the environment. However, these interactions are far from fully understood. 3. 3. Megencephaly, significance, biology and identification of a genetic cause

    Författare :Susanna Petersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Megalencephaly; brain; mceph; ion-channel; DNA; mutation; truncation; frameshift; seizure; plasticity; neurotrophin; growth factor; neuropeptide; positional cloning;

    Sammanfattning : Enlarged brain is termed megencephaly or megalencephaly, and is defined as a brain volume above the 98th percentile. It is a major sign in several neurological diseases with symptoms ranging from very mild to lethal, including mental retardation, low intelligence, motoric and neurological disturbances, seizures and dysmorphic features. 4. 4. Mitigating neuroinflammation : new potential therapeutics and targets

    Författare :Elliot J. Glotfelty; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Neurodegenerative disorders, from chronic diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) to more acute injuries such traumatic brain injury (TBI), present a particular challenge to public health as they lack treatments and have devastating consequences. Across the variety of central nervous system (CNS) diseases and injuries, inflammation is a hallmark and potential target for effective therapies. LÄS MER
