    Sammanfattning : The nasal administration of drugs offers advantages over administration by intravenous injection. Drugs can be rapidly absorbed through the nasal mucosa, resulting in a rapid onset of action, and also avoiding degradation in the gastrointestinal tract and first-pass metabolism in the liver.     Sammanfattning : Clevidipine is a new ultrashort-acting calcium antagonist of the dihydropyridine type developed for reduction and control of blood pressure in connection with cardiac surgery. The aim of this thesis was to characterise the in vitro hydrolysis rate of clevidipine in different biological matrices and the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in animal species and various human populations.     Sammanfattning : In this thesis, factors important in tableting operations and for tablet properties have been studied and characterised by different spectroscopic techniques as well as by some more conventionally used particle characterisation techniques. The spectroscopic techniques solid-state NMR, FT-IR and NIR spectroscopy, proved to be valuable tools in the estimation of particle and tablet properties, offering both specificity and sensitivity in the measurements.     Sammanfattning : Pharmacodynamic modeling was used to quantify the time aspects of theantinociceptive effect in rats following administration of morphine, morphine-3-glucuronide (M3G) and morphine-glucuronide (M6G).
