11. Investigations of Proneural Glioblastoma to Identify Novel Therapeutic Targets
Sammanfattning : Malignant glioma is a highly lethal and destructive disease with no proper cure. We have investigated some of the hallmarks of cancer in connection to glioma and found ways to disrupt these and prevent tumor growth. The work is done within the context of a glioma subtype distinguished by activation of PDGF signaling termed the proneural subtype. LÄS MER
12. Genetic and Epigenetic Variation in the Human Genome : Analysis of Phenotypically Normal Individuals and Patients Affected with Brain Tumors
Sammanfattning : Genetic and epigenetic variation is a key determinant of human diversity and has an impact on disease predisposition. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and copy number polymorphisms (CNPs) are the main forms of genetic variation. The challenge is to distinguish normal variations from disease-associated changes. 13. Molecular mechanisms of imatinib resistance in gastrointestinal stromal tumor with focus on microRNAs
Sammanfattning : Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is mainly initialized by mutations in receptor tyrosine kinase genes KIT or PDGFRA. The development of imatinib, a small molecule inhibitor that targets these tyrosine kinase receptors, remarkably improved patient outcome. LÄS MER
14. Novel aspects of the molecular biology of gastrointestinal stromal tumors
Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is the most common mesenchymal tumor in the gastrointestinal tract (GI). Historically, these tumors were commonly mistaken for myogenic and neurogenic masses, and then eventually came to be recognized as a distinct type of soft-tissue sarcoma through ultrastructural findings and specific immunomarkers. 15. PDGFB and P53 in brain tumorigenesis
Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma is the most common, and malignant form of brain tumor. It is characterized by a rapid growth and diffuse spread to surrounding brain tissue. The cell of origin is still not known, but experimental data suggest an origin from a glial precursor or neural stem cell. LÄS MER
