  1. 1. Translational studies of metastatic melanoma in the era of immunotherapy - from humanized mouse models to clinical trials

    Författare :Henrik Jespersen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Metastatic melanoma; Uveal melanoma; Humanized mouse models; Immunotherapy; Chimeric antigen receptor T cells; PD-1 inhibition; Epigenetics; Histone deacetylase inhibition;

    Sammanfattning : Immunotherapy with PD-1 inhibitors has transformed the treatment of met-astatic cutaneous mela- noma, and can lead to complete and durable responses in a proportion of patients. However, in around half of the patients, the treatment has little or no effect. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Checkpoint inhibitor-induced adverse events in the CNS - T-cell characteristics and biomarkers

    Författare :Sara Bjursten; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Melanoma; Immune checkpoint inhibition; Immune related adverse events to the CNS; T cells;

    Sammanfattning : Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) activate T cells to kill cancer cells by blocking inhibitory receptors PD-1 (nivolumab; nivo) or CTLA-4 (ipilimumab; ipi). Activated T cells can also attack any healthy organ, causing unpredictable immune related adverse events (irAE). The risk of irAE is highest when treating with ipi and nivo simultaneously. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Exploring the Genetics of SLE with Linkage and Association Analysis

    Författare :Cecilia Johansson; Marta Alarcón-Riquelme; Peter Gregersen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular genetics; Systemic lupus erythematosus; complex disease; linkage analysis; association analysis; Genetik; Genetics; Genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The aim with this thesis has been to identify genes involved in the pathogenesis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). SLE is a systemic autoimmune disorder, most likely caused by both several genetic and environmental factors. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Mapping the immune landscape in solid tumors : implications for immunotherapy

    Författare :Emelie Foord; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Our cells are programmed with various safety mechanisms to avoid transformation into tumor cells. In case these fail, we have a guarding immune system ready to recognize and eliminate these cells. Despite these safety measurements, cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. The tumor cells find ways to escape the immune system. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Novel immunotherapies for metastatic uveal melanoma - From bench to clinical biomarkers

    Författare :Vasu R. Sah; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Immunotherapy has revolutionized cancer treatment, with durable long-term effects in a proportion of patients. However, in around half of these patients, there are little to no effects. Patients with metastatic uveal melanoma (mUM), a rare form of melanoma originating from the eye has lack of effective treatments. LÄS MER
