  1. 1. Gene transfer by interspecific hybridization in bryophytes

    Författare :Weerachon Sawangproh; Biodiversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; homozygote; heterozygote; admixture; single nucleotide polymorphism; STRUCTURE; PCoA; hybrid index; inbreeding; outbreeding; hybrid depression; heterosis; phylogeny; purging selection; genetic purging; genotype; phenotype; sympatry; allopatry;

    Sammanfattning : The role of hybridization in evolution has been debated for more than a century regarding bryophytes (mosses, liverworts, and hornworts) as well as most other organisms. Bryophytes have haplodiplontic life cycles with a dominant haploid generation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Blood flow assessment in cerebral arteries with 4D flow magnetic resonance imaging : an automatic atlas-based approach

    Författare :Tora Dunås; Anders Eklund; Anders Wåhlin; Jan Malm; Einar Heiberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Circle of Willis; 4D flow MRI; Cerebral arteries; Vascular disease; Stroke; Automatic labeling; Probabilistic atlas; Cerebral blood flow; Neuroimaging; Magnetic Resonance Imaging;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Disturbed blood flow to the brain has been associated with several neurological diseases, from stroke and vascular diseases to Alzheimer’s and cognitive decline. To determine the cerebral arterial blood flow distribution, measurements are needed in both distal and proximal arteries. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Risk factors for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

    Författare :Dariush Nasrollahzadeh Nesheli; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :esophageal cancer;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: The etiology of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) in the high risk areas is largely unknown and a few environmental risk factors which have been identified do not explain its oddly high incidence in esophageal cancer belt. The aims of this thesis were to investigate the association of opium/tobacco consumption, serologic gastric atrophy, gastric mucosa-associated microbiota and contact with farm animals with the risk of ESCC. 4. 4. The role of microbial translocation and gut microbiota in HIV-1 infection

    Författare :Jan Vesterbacka; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : HIV-1 infection is characterized by persistent systemic inflammation and immune activation, even in patients receiving effective antiretroviral therapy (ART). Translocation of microbial compounds from a leaky gut to systemic circulation, so called microbial translocation (MT), is a major driver of the immune activation. LÄS MER
