21. Rickettsia helvetica; Detection in arthropods and human tissues and its relation to clinical disease
Sammanfattning : A relation between R. helvetica and perimyocarditis was, in two young men who died of sudden cardiac death during exercise in 1997, suggested by a seminested PCR, for three different genes, sequencing of the amplified products, documentation of a seroresponse and histopathologic changes in accordance with rickettsioses. 22. Stability of bacterial DNA in relation to microbial detection in teeth
Sammanfattning : The fate of DNA from dead cells is an important issue when interpreting results from root canal infections analysed by the PCR technique. DNA from dead bacterial cells is known to be detectable long time after cell death and its stability is dependent on many different factors. LÄS MER
23. The ubiquity and type diversity of papillomaviruses in normal skin
Sammanfattning : Papillomaviruses are a diverse, epitheliotropic group of viruses. Some genotypes are the main cause of anogenital cancer in humans; others can induce skin lesions. In order to investigate the occurrence of subclinical skin infections with human papillomavirus (HPV), a pair of degenerate primers (FAP59/64) was designed. LÄS MER
24. Development of novel molecular methods for Campylobacter species and for Helicobacter pylori
Sammanfattning : Background and Aim: Different Campylobacter species and Helicobacter pylori are common causes of gastrointestinal infections that may result in diarrhea and chronic gastritis, respectively. The overall aim of this thesis was to develop novel methods for identification, differentiation and characterization of these bacteria. LÄS MER
25. Molecular analysis of the oral microbiota of dental diseases
Sammanfattning : Traditionally, bacterial culture has been used for bacterial detection, allowing study of living microorganisms. Molecular methods are rapid and allow simultaneous identification of numerous species and uncultivated phylotypes. LÄS MER
