  1. 1. PCR-based detection of microorganisms in complex biological samples

    Författare :Pär-G Lantz; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Density gradient centrifugation; DNA extraction; Aqueous two-phase systems; Meat; Faeces; Cheese; Yeast; Helicobacter pylori; Yersinia enterocolitica; Listeria monocytogenes; PCR; Inhibition; Sample preparation; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The detection of microorganisms by PCR can be divided into four steps: (1) sample collection, (2) sample preparation, (3) DNA amplification and (4) detection of PCR products. The major problem in developing PCR-based detection methods is the sample preparation step. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Genetic Analyses using Rolling Circle or PCR Amplified Padlock Probes

    Författare :Johan Banér; Sanjay Tyagi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Molecular medicine; Padlock probes; rolling circle amplification; PCR; genotyping; microarray; expression analysis; Molekylärmedicin; Molecular medicine genetics and pathology ; Molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; Medical Genetics; medicinsk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Padlock probes are useful in a variety of genetic applications, some of which require that the probes are amplified in order to generate detectable signals. Two general padlock amplification methods, RCA and PCR, are discussed in this thesis. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Genital human papillomaviruses. Studies of their occurrence, type spectrum and expression

    Författare :Ola Forslund; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mRNA expression; microwell; HPV 70; type determination; CIN; quantification; urine; multifocal infections; hybridization; PCR; HPV; human papillomavirus; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The occurrence of genital human papillomavirus infection was determined in different categories of patients by means of PCR. In high proportion of young women attending an adolescent clinic, the presence of HPV DNA was demonstrated in simultaneously urethral and cervical samples, suggesting that genital HPV infections are often multifocal. 4. 4. Rickettsia helvetica; Detection in arthropods and human tissues and its relation to clinical disease

    Författare :Kenneth Nilsson; Björn Olsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Communicable diseases; rickettsia; spotted fever; tick; PCR; myocarditis; sarcoidois; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious Diseases;

    Sammanfattning : A relation between R. helvetica and perimyocarditis was, in two young men who died of sudden cardiac death during exercise in 1997, suggested by a seminested PCR, for three different genes, sequencing of the amplified products, documentation of a seroresponse and histopathologic changes in accordance with rickettsioses. 5. 5. A Molecular Approach for Investigation of the Prevalence and Neurotoxin Formation of Clostridium botulinum in Food Safety Assessment

    Författare :Maria Lövenklev; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; neurotoxin gene expression; neurotoxin; food safety assessment; food preservation; Clostridium botulinum; enrichment PCR; Food and drink technology; qRT-PCR; Livsmedelsteknik; prevalence;

    Sammanfattning : In the development of new food products, more knowledge is needed about the occurrence and quantity of food-borne pathogens in the food chain to be able to implement effective control measures and assure food safety. In addition, improved understanding of how environmental factors and food preservatives effect the microbial virulence expression in foods will enable the formulation of new strategies for food preservation and risk assessment.
