  1. 6. IGF-1R inhibition : a tool for functional studies of insulin-like growth factor family in malignant cells

    Författare :Daiana Vasilcanu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :IGF-1R; chemoresistance; IR; glucose uptake; tyrosine kinase inhibitors;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer cells generally posses the capability of overusing normal extracellular signaling for proliferation and/or anti-apoptosis to create growth advantage over the normal cells. Major players in extracellular signaling are the growth factor receptors. Among them, an activated IGF-1R is important for the establishment of a malignant cell phenotype. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Targeting MTHFD1 and MTHFD2 as cancer treatment

    Författare :Petra Marttila; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : One-carbon (1C) metabolism provides building blocks for nucleotide synthesis and therefore plays a central role in DNA replication and repair. To sustain rapid proliferation, cancer cells often upregulate their 1C metabolism, including the enzymes MTHFD1 and MTHFD2, as a part of their metabolic rewiring. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Apoptosis, cellular division or mitotic catastrophe? Effects of kinase inhibition and DNa damage in lung cancer cells

    Författare :Anna Therése Helén Hemström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells are generally characterized by a low response to conventional anti-cancer agents, such as DNA-damaging drugs. Treatments that induce DNA damage relies on cellular signalling resulting in the induction of growth arrest and apoptotic cell death. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Exploring novel roles of metabolic enzymes MTHFD2 and PFKFB3 in cancer genome stability and their potential as anticancer therapeutic targets

    Författare :Nadilly Y Bonagas Villarreal; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Altered tumor metabolism has been described as early as the 1920s, but it was only in recent decades that proteomic and metabolomic studies revealed that the ways in which tumors rewire their nutrient and energy pathways are more diverse and have more implications for treatment outcome than previously thought. There is now a great interest in characterizing promising metabolic targets and identifying novel ways by which to exploit them for cancer treatment. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Study of the mechanisms behind the additive effect of neoadjuvant castration on radiotherapy for prostate cancer

    Författare :Firas L Tarish; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Castration improves responses to radiotherapy (RT) in prostate cancer with unknown mechanism. An understanding of what happens at the cellular and molecular level in prostate cancer cells, while reducing their access to androgens and then exposing them to ionizing radiation (IR), would give us an opportunity to optimize the treatment and may also inspire novel therapeutic approaches.
