21. Aspects of aqueous humor dynamics : Studies in vivo and in vitro
Sammanfattning : The purpose of the present investigation was to study the effects of PGF2α-l-isopropylester, some neuropeptides, and pharmacological agents on aqueous humor dynamics and intraocular pressure (IOP) in vivo and on adenylate cyclase activity in the nonpigmented ciliary epithelium (NPE) in vitro.Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) caused a dose-dependent increase in cAMP formation, indicating that the NPE contains receptors for PACAP and VIP coupled to adenylate cyclase activation. 22. The neuropeptide VIP and the IL-6 family of cytokines in bone : effects on bone resorption, cytokine expression and receptor signalling in osteoblasts and bone marrow stromal cells
Sammanfattning : Bone tissue is continuously degraded and rebuilt to respond to the needs of the body. Cells of the osteoblast lineage are responsible for the formation of bone, whereas the resorption of bone tissue is carried out by osteoclasts. LÄS MER
23. Vascular effects of neuropeptides and UDP-β-S and alterations after stroke
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to investigate the changes in vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP) and P2Y6-mediated signaling following experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO). VIP and CGRP are among the most powerful vasodilators known to man while P2Y6 mediates strong vasoconstriction in cerebral blood vessels. LÄS MER
24. Deciphering the role of genetics and circadian rhythm in cluster headache
Sammanfattning : Cluster headache (CH) is a complex neurovascular disorder with a distinct circadian attack pattern. Although many aspects of the disease’s pathophysiology remain to be elucidated, it is likely caused by a combination of different genetic and environmental risk factors. LÄS MER
25. Ephrins off the beaten path
Sammanfattning : The Orchestration of cell-cell interactions is crucial to the developing embryo and the adult organism. Intercellular communication is to a large extent controlled by signalling events downstream of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs). Ligands for RTKs are often soluble and confer long distance information to the receptor expressing cell. LÄS MER
