  1. 1. Ligand-based Methods for Data Management and Modelling

    Författare :Jonathan Alvarsson; Jarl E. S. Wikberg; Ola Spjuth; Claes Andersson; Martin Eklund; John P. Overington; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; QSAR; ligand-based drug discovery; bioclipse; information system; cheminformatics; bioinformatics; Farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical Pharmacology; Bioinformatik; Bioinformatics;

    Sammanfattning : Drug discovery is a complicated and expensive process in the billion dollar range. One way of making the drug development process more efficient is better information handling, modelling and visualisation. The majority of todays drugs are small molecules, which interact with drug targets to cause an effect. LÄS MER

  2. 2. WNT/FZD signaling : an odyssey from molecular pharmacology to brain (patho)physiology

    Författare :Jacomijn P Dijksterhuis; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The 19 members of the lipoglycoprotein family of WNTs interact with the highly conserved cysteine-rich domain (CRD) of ten members of the Frizzled (FZD1-10) family. The seven transmembrane-spanning surface receptors are listed as G protein-coupled receptors and are known to interact with heterotrimeric G proteins as well as the scaffolding protein disheveled. 3. 3. Antibiotic Resistance and the Cellular Currency S-adenosyl-methionine : Modification of aminoglycosides and nucleic acids

    Författare :Sandesh Kanchugal P; Maria Selmer; Ditlev Brodersen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Antibiotic resistance; streptomycin; spectinomycin; X-ray crystallography; methyltransferase; Biology with specialization in Structural Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot strukturbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Streptomycin and spectinomycin are antibiotics that bind to ribosomes and inhibit protein synthesis. Common resistance mechanisms involve enzymatic modification of the two drugs by aminoglycoside nucleotidyltransferases (ANTs). The first part of this thesis covers the structural mechanism of two ANT enzymes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The role of Notch signaling in cancer and metastasis

    Författare :Anders P Mutvei; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The Notch signaling pathway is an evolutionary conserved cell-to-cell communication pathway that regulates many important aspects in the development and tissue homeostasis of multicellular animals. It operates in a wide range of cellular contexts and dysregulated Notch signaling has been linked to a number of diseases, including cancer. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : This work focuses on the design, synthesis, characterization, and application projections of low-coordinated heavy pnictogen-containing (described by the generic letter E, hence E=C) phosphaalkenes (P=C) and arsaalkenes (As=C), with emphasis on the E=C group motifs. The work aims to understand their functional and modular character, reactivity, and potential applications by stabilizing, isolating, and characterizing these species in low-coordination environments.
