1. On Cross-Layer Design and Resource Scheduling in Wireless Networks
Sammanfattning : Wireless technology has revolutionized the world of communications, enabling ubiquitous connectivity and leading every year to several new applications and services embraced by billions of users. To meet the increasing demand for high data-rate wireless services, standardization bodies and vendors released a new generation of standard-based devices capable to offer wide area high-speed and high-quality wireless coverage. 2. Endometrial receptivity and human embryo implantation : in vivo and in vitro studies
Sammanfattning : Background: Infertility, one of the common gynaecological disorders, affects 10-15% women in their reproductive years. Despite the advances in assisted reproduction techniques and the best efforts of infertility specialists, implantation rates do not exceed more than 28-30%. LÄS MER
3. Infrared spectroscopy : Method development and ligand binding studies
Sammanfattning : Infrared spectroscopy detects molecular vibrations and assesses the properties of molecules and their environment. It is a powerful technique to detect ligand induced changes in biomolecules as it has distinct signals and provides different levels of structural information. LÄS MER
4. The application of microfluidic devices and multifunctional fibers in cancer diagnostics
Sammanfattning : Efficient separation and detection of rare cells in a mixed population is important in many biomedical applications. For instance, isolating and detecting circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from whole blood samples could allow for early cancer diagnosis and prognosis during treatment. LÄS MER
5. Anthropometry in the elderly. Population studies on longitudinal changes, secular trends and risk for morbidity and mortality
Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to a) describe longitudinal changes in height and body weight (BW) between the ages 70 and 95y; b) describe secular trends in height and BW of 70-year-olds and their relation to social and lifestyle factors; c) investigate waist circumference (WC) and body mass index (BMI) at age 70 as risk for stroke during a 15-y follow-up; and, d) examine the relationship between 1) BMI at age 70 and 15-y all- cause mortality, 2) the percentage of weight change from age 70 to 75 and subsequent 5- and 10-y mortality. The studies were performed within the framework of the gerontological and geriatric population studies in Göteborg, Sweden-the H70 studies. LÄS MER
