  1. 1. Designing Public Play : Playful Engagement, Constructed Activity, and Player Experience

    Författare :Jon Back; Annika Waern; Barry Brown; José P. Zagal; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; design; public; play; playful; playfulness; game; activity; experience; second order design; engage; engagement; fun; magic circle; brink games; pervasive games; place; space; co-creativity; empowerment; game jam; busking; street performance; playground; Human-Computer Interaction; Människa-dator interaktion;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis sets out to explore why people engage in, and how to design for, play in a public setting. It does this by separating design for play from design of games, describing play as a socially and mentally understood activity, and a playful approach to engaging in that activity. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I combined field, greenhouse and common-garden experiments to examine the ecological and evolutionary consequences of plant-herbivore interactions and the genetic architecture of fitness-related traits in the insect-pollinated, self-incompatible, perennial herb Arabidopsis lyrata. More specifically, I examined (1) whether damage to leaves and inflorescences affects plant fitness non-additively, (2) whether trichome production is associated with a cost in terms of reduced tolerance to leaf and inflorescence damage, (3) whether young plant resistance to a specialist insect herbivore varies among populations, and (4) whether the evolution of flowering time, floral display and rosette size is constrained by lack of genetic variation or by genetic correlations among traits. 4. 4. Adrenergic receptors in brown adipose tissue

    Författare :Jan Svartengren; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this study was to identify adrenergic receptors and to investigate their regulation of physiological processes in brown adipose tissue.Isolated hamster brown fat cells and plasma membrane fractions contained a high number of α1- and β1-adrenergic receptors, as assessed by direct radioligand binding techniques using (3H)prazosin and (-)(3H)dihydroalprenolol, respectively. 5. 5. Pheromonal Mediated Behaviour and Endocrine Responses in Salmonids : The impact of Cypermethrin, Copper, and Glyphosate

    Författare :Alia Jaensson; Ingvar Brandt; Håkan Olsen; Kjell Döving; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cypermethrin; copper; glyphosate; behaviour; hormones; pheromones; olfaction; 11-ketotestosterone 11-KT ; 17α; 20β-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one 17; 20β-P ; reproduction; Toxicology; Toxikologi; Biologi med inriktning mot ekotoxikologi; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology;

    Sammanfattning : The effects of cypermethrin, copper and glyphosate on the endocrine system and subsequent response to female pheromones were investigated in mature male brown trout (Salmo trutta) parr.  Responses measured were the amount of strippable milt, blood plasma levels of both an androgen (11-ketotestosterone (11-KT)) and a progestin (17α,20β-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (17,20b-P)), and behavioural changes.
