11. On dynamic crack growth in discontinuous materials
Sammanfattning : In this thesis work numerical procedures are developed for modeling dynamic fracture of discontinuous materials, primarily materials composed of a load-bearing network. The models are based on the Newtonian equations of motion, and does not require neither stiffness matrices nor remeshing as cracks form and grow. LÄS MER
12. An Approach for Evaluation of Brick Lining's Mechanical State in Rotary Kilns
Sammanfattning : Production of many materials requires treatment at elevated temperatures. Calcination and sintering are some of the important heat treatment procedures which are typically performed in so-called rotary kilns. These, not very well-known treatment vessels, have a significant impact on our everyday life. LÄS MER
13. Predicting Sheared Edge Characteristics of High Strength Steels
Sammanfattning : An efficient way of reducing CO2 emissions from the transportation sector is to reduce the vehicle weights, i.e. lightweighting. A common strategy for lightweighting of vehicles is to replace the steels used to build structural parts of the vehicle, usually manufactured by metallic sheets, with stronger, advanced high strength steel (AHSS) grades. 14. Modelling of fracture toughness using peridynamics : A Study of J-integral, essential work and homogenisation
Sammanfattning : Fracture toughness is one of the most important properties of a material. Being able toaccurately estimate the energy that goes into forming new crack surfaces is essential for the development of new materials, quality assurance, structural monitoring and failure analysis. LÄS MER
15. Mechanical Characterization of Heterogeneous Brittle Materials
Sammanfattning : Comminution is one of the highest energy-consuming processes in the mining and mineral processing industry by consuming around 2% of the global generated energy with an overall efficiency of 1-3%. Different approaches to the optimization of processes have been developed, but there is still room for improvement. LÄS MER
