  1. 6. Voltage-dependent anion channels (VDAC) in the plasma membrane induce apoptosis

    Författare :Nesar Akanda; Fredrik Elinder; Tuula Jalonen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Physiology; Apoptosis; Cell membrane; Hippocampus; Membrane potentials; Neurons; Voltage-dependent anion channels; Medicine; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Apoptosis, or programmed cell death, is essential for proper development and functioning of the body systems. During development, apoptosis plays a central role to sculpt the embryo, and in adults, to maintain tissue homeostasis by eliminating redundant, damaged or effete cells. Therefore, a tight regulation of this process is essential. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Plasma membrane arabinogalactan proteins

    Författare :Lars Snogerup; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; arabinogalactan protein plant development cell-cell interaction plasma membrane; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Arabinogalactan proteins (AGPs) are proteoglycans found at the outer side of the plasma membrane and in the extracellular matrix of plants. To be able to study the plasma membrane bound AGPs, a method using SDS-agarose gel electrophoresis (SDS-AGE) was developed to overcome the problems associated with electrophoretic separation of highly glycosylated proteins. 3. 8. Host-Pathogen Interactions in Pseudomonas aeruginosa Invasive and Respiratory Tract Infection

    Författare :Magnus Paulsson; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; vitronectin; Respiratory tract infections; Innate Immunity; outer membrane vesicles; outer membrane proteins; beta-lactamase; ciprofloxacin; combination treatment; bacteraemia; Complement escape;

    Sammanfattning : Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic bacterium that causes debilitating infections when the immune defence is compromised. It possesses an arsenal of virulence traits to colonize most compartments of the body and is often highly resistant against commonly used antimicrobial drugs. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Taming the Griffin : Membrane interactions of peripheral and monotopic glycosyltransferases and dynamics of bacterial and plant lipids in bicelles

    Författare :Jobst Liebau; Lena Mäler; Charles Sanders; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane; bicelle; lipid; detergent; lipopolysaccharide; glycosyltransferase; WaaG; fluorescence; circular dichroism; NMR; paramagnetic relaxation enhancement; model-free approach; dynamics; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Biological membranes form a protective barrier around cells and cellular compartments. A broad range of biochemical processes occur in or at membranes demonstrating that they are not only of structural but also of functional importance. One important class of membrane proteins are membrane-associated glycosyltransferases. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Roles of membrane vesicles in bacterial pathogenesis

    Författare :Svitlana Vdovikova; Sun Nyunt Wai; Richard Lundmark; Ann-Beth Jonsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Membrane vesicles; autophagy; pore-forming toxin; pore formation; Listeria monocytogenes; Vibrio cholerae; virulence factor; PrtV protease; listeriolysin O; V. cholerae cytolysin; mikrobiologi; Microbiology; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The production of membranous vesicles is observed to occur among organisms from all domains of the tree of life spanning prokaryotes (bacteria, archaea) and eukaryotes (plants, animals and fungi). Bacterial release of membrane-derived vesicles (MVs) has been studied most extensively in cases of Gram-negative species and implicating their outer membrane in formation of extracellular MVs. LÄS MER
