1. Static and Dynamic Load Response of the Lumbar Spine in Flexion
Sammanfattning : The aims of this study were to develop experimental methods for static and dynamic loading of spinal segments in vitro that would simulate flexion-distraction injuries (lap seat-belt injuries) and increase knowledge about the biomechanical response and the mechanisms of injury of the lumbar spine under static and dynamic (transient) loads in flexion. The experiments were carried out on the lumbar functional spinal unit (FSU) consisting of two adjacent vertebrae, the intervertebral disc and all intervening ligaments. LÄS MER
2. Driving technology and development : Usability studies of gear shifters with variations in pattern, stability and design
Sammanfattning : Over the last few decades, the development of technology used in cars has moved forward at a very intensive pace. The focus has started to shift from the technology to the human as a user. LÄS MER
3. System analysis of kitesurfing : Understanding performance and injury risk for on-water board sports
Sammanfattning : Board sports are examples of sports where the interaction of the task, environment and the athlete are essential. As for other sports, there are injuries and other issues associated with these sports, which affect performance and that can be avoided by proper preparation and well- designed equipment. LÄS MER
4. Ergonomics risk assessment methods for creating healthy work environments
Sammanfattning : Risk assessments of ergonomic conditions in pre-production and in field are necessary to prevent work-related musculoskeletal disorders and to increase productivity and quality. Methods for such assessments include simulations, direct measurements and observations. LÄS MER
5. Capturing semi-automated decision making : the methodology of CASADEMA
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a new methodology named CASADEMA (CApturing Semi-Automated DEcision MAking) which captures the interaction between humans and the technology they use to support their decision-making within the domain of Information Fusion. We are particularly interested in characterising the interaction between human decision makers and artefacts in semi-automated fusion processes. LÄS MER
