  1. 11. Human intraepithelial lymphocytes : a comparative study of phenotype, morphology, and functional properties of intraepithelial lymphocytes in gut and oral mucosa

    Författare :Carina Lundqvist; Marie-Louise Hammarström; Sten Hammarström; Per Brandtzaeg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human intraepithelial lymphocytes; alimentary tract; intestinal epithelium; gut luminal antigens; gingiva; γδ T cells; immunoelectron microscopy; cytokine mRNA; RT-PCR; extrathymic T cell maturation; RAG-1; periodontitis; mucosal immune system; CD4-CD8- αβ T cells; CD8 γδ T cells;

    Sammanfattning : Human intraepithelial lymphocytes (IEL) constitute a unique cell population situated in the first line of defense of the alimentary tract. Here they are continuously exposed to a massive antigenic load of high complexity. However, different conditions prevail along the alimentary tract. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Intestinal barriers to oral drug absorption: Cytochrome P450 3A and ABC-transport proteins

    Författare :Helena Engman; Per Artursson; Hans Lenernäs; Heyo K Kroemer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutics; oral drug delivery; bioavailability; human jejunum; Caco-2; ABC-transporter; P-glycoprotein; CYP3A; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics; Galenisk farmaci;

    Sammanfattning : The subject of this thesis was to study two intestinal barriers to oral drug bioavailability, drug efflux proteins of the ABC-transporter family, and in particular ABCB1/P-glycoprotein (Pgp), and the drug metabolizing enzyme cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4. At the onset of this thesis, similarities between CYP3A4 and Pgp in terms of their tissue distribution and gene regulation, along with overlapping substrate specificities, had generated the hypothesis that CYP3A4 and Pgp may have a complementary function and thus form a coordinated intestinal barrier to drug absorption and gut wall metabolism. 3. 13. Effects of 5-fluorouracil on oral barrier functions

    Författare :Inger von Bültzingslöwen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Many anticancer drugs, e.g. 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), may cause oral mucositis and ulcerations. These adverse reactions can be severe and debilitating to the patient, and adjustment of the cancer treatment may be necessary. LÄS MER

  4. 14. The role of WNT5A in oral squamous cell carcinoma

    Författare :Zdenka Prgomet; Malmö högskola; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide and furtherresearch into the cancer biology is required to improve treatment andsurvival. Cancer can start in all sites of the body and is characterizedby uncontrolled cell growth and capability of invading surroundingtissue and spreading to other sites of the body. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Toxicity of smokeless tobacco in human oral epithelium with emphasis on carcinogen metabolism and regulation of programmed cell death

    Författare :Martin Vondracek; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The oral mucosa is globally a common site for cancer development. Primary risk factors include tobacco smoking and alcohol consumption whereas the contribution from usage of smokeless tobacco remains debated. LÄS MER
