  1. 1. Oral lichen planus : studies of factors involved in differentiation, epithelial mesenchymal transition and inflammation

    Författare :Karin Danielsson; Karin Nylander; Ylva Britt Wahlin; Linda Boldrup; Jesper Reibel; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oral lichen planus; differentiation; inflammation; autoimmune; premalign; odontologi; Odontology; patologi; Pathology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Lichen planus is a chronic inflammation of skin and mucosa with unknown cause. Oral Lichen Planus, OLP, affects around 2% of the population. Autoimmunity has been suggested as a possible cause as the disease has autoimmune features such as female predominance, cyclic nature and cytotoxic T-cell infiltrate. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Aldehyde toxicity in human oral epithelium

    Författare :Jan Anders Nilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Oral epithelium; cell cultures; toxicity; transformation; aldehydes; thiols; ADH3;

    Sammanfattning : Human oral epithelium is an established target for aldehyde toxicity, including from usage of tobacco, intake of foods and fluids, leaching of dental materials, and from mouth inhalation of aldehydes in the work environment. Following establishment of culture/exposure protocols for oral cell cultures, toxicity mechanisms and risk of malignant transformation from aldehyde exposure was investigated, including the metabolic defense offered by alcohol dehydrogenase 3 (ADH3) against formaldehyde toxicity. 3. 3. Potentially Malignant Disorders and Oral cancer -A study on Immunosurveillance

    Författare :Jenny Öhman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oral lichen planus; Leukoplakia; Oral cancer; Immunosurveillance; Solid organ transplantation; T cells; Langerhans cells;

    Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT The cancer immunosurveillance hypothesis postulates that the immune system can recognize cancer cell precursors and destroy those cells before a clinical manifestation occurs. During the last decades several groups have presented evidence of the influence and role of immune activation in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) patients; however, much less is known about the role of immune activation in potentially malignant oral disorders (PMOD). 4. 4. Oral delivery of macromolecules formulated with permeation enhancers

    Författare :Staffan Berg; Christel Bergström; Nigel Davies; Andreas Hugerth; David Brayden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oral peptide delivery; permeation enhancer; sodium caprate; oral drug delivery; intestinal absorption of macromolecules; Biofarmaci; Biopharmaceutics; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics;

    Sammanfattning : Therapeutic macromolecules including peptides, proteins, and nucleotide-based ones (such as antisense oligonucleotides and RNAs) have great potential as drug candidates. One drawback is that they typically need to be administered parenterally via subcutaneous, intramuscular or intravenous injections. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Particle Transcytosis Across the Human Intestinal Epithelium : Model Development and Target Identification for Improved Drug Delivery

    Författare :Elisabet Gullberg; Per Artursson; Barry Hirst; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutics; M-cell; FAE; Peyer´s patches; oral vaccination; uptake; endocytosis; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics; Galenisk farmaci;

    Sammanfattning : The use of nano- and micro-particulate carriers as delivery systems for oral vaccines has been under investigation for several decades. Surprisingly little is known of their uptake in the human intestine, despite the fact that substantial improvement is required to achieve adequate immune responses in man after oral administration.
