6. An Optimisation Approach to Cartographic Generalisation
Sammanfattning : Cartographic generalisation is the process of simplifying a representation to suit the scale and purpose of a map. As such, generalisation has always been a central part in map production. This thesis is a contribution to the ongoing work on automating cartographic generalisation. LÄS MER
7. Liquidity and Portfolio Optimisation
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents research within empirical financial economics with focus on liquidity and portfolio optimisation in the stock markets. The discussion on liquidity is focussed on measurement issues, including TAQ data processing and measurement of systematic liquidity factors. LÄS MER
8. Experimental studies of wind turbine wakes : power optimisation and meandering
Sammanfattning : Wind tunnel studies of the wake behind model wind turbines with one, two and three blades have been made in order to get a better understanding of wake development as well as the possibility to predict the power output from downstream turbines working in the wake of an upstream one. Both two-component hot-wire anemometry and particle image velocimetry (PIV) have been used to map the flow field downstream as well as upstream the turbine. LÄS MER
9. Slab track optimisation considering dynamic train–track interaction
Sammanfattning : Slab track is a type of railway track that is frequently used e.g. in high-speed applications as an alternative to ballasted track. Slab track is also well suited on bridges and in tunnels since no ballast is required and the cross-section of tunnels can be reduced. LÄS MER
10. Advancing the life cycle energy optimisation methodology
Sammanfattning : The Life Cycle Energy Optimisation (LCEO) methodology aims at finding a design solution that uses a minimum amount of cumulative energy demand over the different phases of the vehicle's life cycle, while complying with a set of functional constraints. This effectively balances trade-offs, and therewith avoids sub-optimal shifting between the energy demand for the cradle-to-production of materials, operation of the vehicle, and end-of-life phases.
