21. Benefits of Non-Linear Mixed Effect Modeling and Optimal Design : Pre-Clinical and Clinical Study Applications
Sammanfattning : Despite the growing promise of pharmaceutical research, inferior experimentation or interpretation of data can inhibit breakthrough molecules from finding their way out of research institutions and reaching patients. This thesis provides evidence that better characterization of pre-clinical and clinical data can be accomplished using non-linear mixed effect modeling (NLMEM) and more effective experiments can be conducted using optimal design (OD). 22. Test Design for Mean Ability Growth and Optimal Item Calibration for Achievement Tests
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, we examine two topics in the area of educational measurement. The first topic studies how to best design two achievement tests with common items such that a population mean-ability growth is measured as precisely as possible. The second examines how to calibrate newly developed test items optimally. LÄS MER
23. Optimal input design for nonlinear dynamical systems : a graph-theory approach
Sammanfattning : Optimal input design concerns the design of an input sequence to maximize the information retrieved from an experiment. The design of the input sequence is performed by optimizing a cost function related to the intended model application. Several approaches to input design have been proposed, with results mainly on linear models. LÄS MER
24. Diffractive Optics Design
Sammanfattning : Diffractive optical elements (kinoforms) change the way light propagates, and can perform very complex tasks. They can split an incident beam into any number of outgoing, and possibly focused, beams (fan-out). LÄS MER
25. Viscoelastic Materials : Identification and Experiment Design
Sammanfattning : Viscoelastic materials can today be found in a wide range of practical applications. In order to make efficient use of these materials in construction, it is of importance to know how they behave when subjected to dynamic load. LÄS MER
