  1. 16. A Realizable Hybrid Mixture-Bubble Model for Cavitating Flows

    Författare :Ebrahim Ghahramani; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Multi-scale model; Homogeneous mixture model; Cavitation; Disperse multiphase flow; Eulerian-Lagrangian model; OpenFOAM;

    Sammanfattning : Cavitating multi-phase flows include an extensive range of cavity structures with different length scales, from micro bubbles to large sheet cavities that may fully cover the surface of a device. To avoid high computational expenses, incompressible transport equation models are considered a practical option for simulation of large scale cavitating flows, normally with limited representation of the small scale vapour structures. 2. 17. Modelling Techniques for Large-Eddy Simulation of Wall-Bounded Turbulent Flows

    Författare :Timofey Mukha; Mattias Liefvendahl; Hrvoje Jasak; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Wall modelling; Inflow generation; Large-eddy simulation; OpenFOAM; Computational fluid dynamics; Scientific Computing; Beräkningsvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Large-eddy simulation (LES) is a highly accurate turbulence modelling approach in which a wide range of spatial and temporal scales of the flow are resolved. However, LES becomes prohibitively computationally expensive when applied to wall-bounded flows at high Reynolds numbers, which are typical of many industrial applications. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Modelling of cathode-plasma interaction in short high-intensity electric arc : Application to Gas Tungsten Arc Welding

    Författare :Alireza Javidi Shirvan; Isabelle Choquet; Håkan Nilsson; Armelle Vardelle; Högskolan Väst; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electric arc discharge; sheath; pre-sheath; Knudsen layer; doped refractory cathode; arc-cathode coupling; Gas Tungsten Arc simulation; OpenFOAM.; Production Technology; Produktionsteknik; Manufacturing and materials engineering; Produktions- och materialteknik;

    Sammanfattning : In arc welding the quality of the weld is strongly influenced by the thermal history of the workpiece which is itself governed by the electric arc heat source. The models for predicting weld properties thus need a good evaluation of the distribution of the heat input from thearc to the workpiece. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Mooring dynamics for wave energy applications

    Författare :Johannes Palm; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hp adaptivity; Wave energy; Coupled simulations; CFD; Discontinuous Galerkin methods; OpenFOAM; Mooring dynamics; Snap loads; RANS;

    Sammanfattning : This work aims to increase the modelling accuracy of two important problems for the wave energy industry. One concerns the mooring dynamics in the presence of snap loads (shock waves in cable tension). The other is related to nonlinear effects in the resonance region of moored wave energy converters (WECs). LÄS MER

  5. 20. Application of Uncertainty Quantification Techniques to Studies of Wall-Bounded Turbulent Flows

    Författare :Saleh Rezaeiravesh; Mattias Liefvendahl; Gunilla Kreiss; Pierre Sagaut; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Uncertainty Quantification; Large Eddy Simulation; Wall-Bounded Turbulent Flows; Wall Modeling; OpenFOAM; Beräkningsvetenskap med inriktning mot numerisk analys; Scientific Computing with specialization in Numerical Analysis;

    Sammanfattning : Wall-bounded turbulent flows occur in many engineering applications. The quantities of interest (QoIs) of these flows can be accurately obtained through experimental measurements and scale-resolving numerical approaches, such as large eddy simulation (LES). LÄS MER
