  1. 1. In Vitro Studies of Adrenocorticolytic DDT Metabolites, with Special Focus on 3-methylsulfonyl-DDE

    Författare :Vendela Asp; Ingvar Brandt; Ulrika Bergström; Olle Söder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Toxicity; 3-methylsulfonyl-DDE; CYP; adrenal cortex; metabolic activation; steroid hormones; Y-1; H295R; mitotane; adrenocortical carcinoma; Toxicology; Toxikologi; Biologi med inriktning mot ekotoxikologi; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology;

    Sammanfattning : The DDT metabolite 3-methylsulfonyl-DDE (3-MeSO2-DDE) is bioactivated by cytochrome P450 11B1 (CYP11B1) in the adrenal cortex of mice and forms irreversibly bound protein adducts, reduces glucocorticoid secretion, and induces cell death selectively in cortisol-producing adrenocortical cells. 3-MeSO2-DDE has therefore been proposed as a lead compound for an improved adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) therapy. 2. 2. Effects of some Endocrine Disruptors on Human and Grey Seal Uterine Cells

    Författare :Carolina Bredhult; Matts Olovsson; Britt-Marie Bäcklin; Olle Söder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Obstetrics and gynaecology; Reproductive toxicology; Baltic grey seal; leiomyoma; myometrial cells; endometrial endothelial cells; hormones; endocrine disruptors; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : The effects of environmental contaminants in humans and animals are of great concern. Some contaminants are endocrine disruptors that may interfere with the endogenous hormonal signalling and disturb, for example, reproductive organs and functions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Perinatal Energy Substrate Metabolism : Glucose Production and Lipolysis in Pregnant Women and Newborn Infants with Particular Reference to Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR)

    Författare :Barbro Diderholm; Jan Gustafsson; Uwe Ewald; Olle Söder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatrics; Lipolysis; Glucose; Newborn infant; Pregnant women; IUGR; Insulin; Stable isotopes; Pediatrik; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Glucose is the most important fetal nutrient and the production of this substrate increases in the pregnant woman. In the last trimester the increased insulin resistance directs energy substrates to the fetus. Fetal growth is sometimes disturbed, often without an obvious explanation. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Gene Expression Profiling of Human Atherosclerosis

    Författare :Sara Hägg; Johan Björkegren; Jesper Tegnér; Josefin Skogsberg; Olle Melander; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is a progressive inflammatory disease that causes lipid accumulation in the arterial wall, leading to the formation of plaques. The clinical manifestations of plaque rupture—stroke and myocardial infarction—are increasing worldwide and pose an enormous economic burden for society. LÄS MER
