  1. 1. Implantation-Site Dependent Differences in Engraftment and Function of Transplanted Pancreatic Islets

    Författare :Joey Lau; Per-Ola Carlsson; Leif Jansson; Carina Carlsson; Caroline Kampf; Annika Tibell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Cell biology; Type 1 diabetes; pancreatic islets; human islets; islet transplantation; vascular engraftment; revascularization; implantation-site; microenvironment; vascular density; insulin release; pro insulin biosynthesis; glucose oxidation; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Transplanting pancreatic islets into the liver through the portal vein is currently the most common procedure in clinical islet transplantations for treating patients with brittle type 1 diabetes. However, most islet grafts fail within a 5-year period necessitating retransplantation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Peripheral immunity in patients with autoimmune endocrine diseases and the influence of physiological adaptions during pregnancy

    Författare :Louise Magnusson; Per-Ola Carlsson; Rosaura Casas; Ola Winqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; Hashimoto´s thyroiditis; Graves´ disease; autoimmune Addison´s disease; antigen-presenting cells; B cells; non-classical monocytes; NK cells; memory CD8 T cells; CDCP1; SLAMF1; inflammation; lymphocyte activation; pregnancy; β-cell function; C-peptide; plasma proteome; prolactin; prokineticin-1; glucagon; oral glucose tolerance test; mass cytometry; proximity extension assay; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science; Klinisk immunologi; Clinical Immunology; Endocrinology and Diabetology; Endokrinologi och Diabetologi; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D), Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT), Graves’ disease (GD), and autoimmune Addison’s disease (AD) appear to share immunogenetic mechanisms. This idea is not novel, as “autoimmune tautology” is an established concept. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Capillary and interstitial transport of fluid and solutes across the peritoneal membrane

    Författare :Ola Carlsson; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vascular resistance.; capillary pressure; aquaporins; Capillary permeability; vesicular transport; Urology; nephrology; Urologi; nefrologi;

    Sammanfattning : According to the three-pore model of peritoneal transport the major exchange pathway between the blood and the peritoneal cavity is represented by “small pores”, permeable to small solutes and water. Osmotically induced fluid flow, as during peritoneal dialysis (PD), is postulated to occur to a great extent through a water-only pathway, whereas proteins are predicted to reach the peritoneal cavity by unidirectional convection across “large pores”. 4. 4. Microcirculation in native and transplanted rodent pancreatic islets with special reference to the influence of diabetes mellitus

    Författare :Per-Ola Carlsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Diabetes; pancreatic islets; islet microcirculation; microspheres; micropuncture technique; islet blood flow; islet capillary pressure; oxygen tension; transplanted islets; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the present work was to characterize the islet microcirculation in animal models of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, as well as in islets transplanted to diabetic or normoglycemic recipients. For this purpose, a microsphere technique was evaluated and applied for measurements of islet blood flow in mice. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Epidemiological aspects of drug-related vitamin D deficiency and osteoporotic fractures

    Författare :Ola Nordqvist; Martin Carlsson; Pär Wanby; Thomas Neumark; Björn Wettermark; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vitamin D; secondary osteoporosis; fractures; drug risk management; medical guideline adherence; electronic health records; real-world data; risk assessment; awareness; attitudes; personalised medicine; cross-sectional study; cohort study; qualitative analysis; thematic analysis; pharmacoepidemiology; Biomedical Sciences; Biomedicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Vitamin D deficiency, secondary osteoporosis and low-energy fractures (LEF) as side effects of specific drugs were first described more than half a century ago. These effects are recognized in guidelines where patients prescribed risk drugs are recommended follow-up with testing and supplementation. LÄS MER
