  1. 1. Estrogen receptor and multixenobiotic resistance genes in freshwater fish and snails: identification and expression analysis after pharmaceutical exposure

    Författare :Cecilia Hultin; Miljövetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; EE2; NSAID; estrogen receptor; oestrogen receptor; multixenobiotic resistance; fish; gastropods;

    Sammanfattning : Pharmaceuticals are today released into aquatic environments where they can interfere with organisms' biological processes.The general research objective was to analyze how aquatic freshwater organisms are affected by exposure to pharmaceuticals that are categorized by the EU as potential risk factors to the environment (i.e. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The Human Endometrium : Studies on Angiogenesis and Endometriosis

    Författare :Christian Moberg; Matts Olovsson; Anneli Stavreus-Evers; Lalit Kumar Parameswaran Grace; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; endometrium; angiogenesis; endothelial cell; endometriosis; receptivity; implantation; oestrogen receptor; progesterone receptor; crystallin; interleukin; vasoactive intestinal peptide; peritoneal fluid; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis is thought to play a pivotal role in the cycling endometrium. Coordinated by oestrogen and progesterone, endometrial blood vessel development is primarily mediated by vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A), which promotes endothelial cell (EC) proliferation and protects ECs from induced apoptosis. 3. 3. Systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis : analyses of candidate genes involved in immune functions, for susceptibility and severity

    Författare :Martin Johansson; Solbritt Rantapää Dahlqvist; Ingrid Lundberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SLE; RA; oestrogen; renal disorder; ESR1; PDCD1; PTPN22; association; severity; Rheumatology; Reumatologi; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune rheumatic disease with systemic manifestations characterized by auto-antibodies directed against different parts of the cell nucleus including DNA, histones and ribosomes. The systemic inflammation can cause damage to multiple organs, e.g., kidneys, skin, heart, lungs and the nervous system. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Brain Aromatase in the guppy, Poecilia reticulata : Distribution, control and role in behaviour

    Författare :Stefan Hallgren; Håkan Olsén; Bertil Borg; Julie Bakker; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oestrogen production; behaviour; anatomy; endocrinology; bio markers; endocrine disruption; Organism biology; Organismbiologi; funktionell morfologi; Functional Zoomorphology; Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Oestrogens are produced by aromatisation of androgens by the aromatase enzyme. In the vertebrate brain this synthesis has vital functions in nerve protection, cell proliferation and nerve development during injury respectively brain development. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Smoking and Breast Cancer

    Författare :Jonas Manjer; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; triglycerides; Nottingham Prognostic Index; hormone receptor; socioeconomic; risk factor; smoking cessation; breast cancer; smoking; survival; Cytology; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer;

    Sammanfattning : Ex-smokers are exposed to a higher breast cancer risk than are never smokers. This conclusion is based on a follow-up of the 10 902 women in the Malmö Preventive Project. The 31% higher incidence in ex-smokers remained statistically significant when other risk factors were taken into account in the analysis. LÄS MER
