11. The Baltic Sea marine system - human impact and natural variations
Sammanfattning : The environmental state of the Baltic Sea system is influenced by both natural and anthropogenic factors. Water exchange with the adjacent ocean and within the system depend on large-scale atmospheric circulation and properties of the straits separating the different sub-basins. LÄS MER
12. Effect of elevated pCO2 and environmental oxazepam on the behavior and physiology of teleost fish
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis investigated the effect of two aquatic pollutants on the behavior and physiology of teleost fish: i) elevated concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the context of ocean acidification and ii) low concentrations of the anxiolytic pharmaceutical oxazepam in the context of pharmaceutical pollution.Anthropogenic emissions of CO2 are lowering the pH of the oceans. 13. Habitat-Forming Seaweeds in a Changing Climate
Sammanfattning : Climate change is an umbrella term encompassing some of the largest and most potent selective pressures currently acting on ecosystems. It can have diverse effects on marine systems; the most powerful of which are changes to salinity through altered patterns of precipitation and evaporation, temperature through increased global temperature, and pH through the dissolution of CO2 into seawater where it ultimately reacts with water to form carbonate (CO32-) and hydrogen ions (2H+). 15. Sex in Murky Waters : Anthropogenic Disturbance of Sexual Selection in Pipefish
Sammanfattning : Animals experience variation in their environment because of natural changes. However, due to anthropogenic disturbance, the speed and severity of these changes have recently increased. This thesis investigates how reproductive behaviours may be affected by human induced environmental change. LÄS MER
