  1. 1. Occupational exposure during production of wood pellets in Sweden

    Författare :Katja Hagström; Kåre Eriksson; Gunilla Lindström; Paul Demers; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Occupational hygiene; wood dust; resin acids; VOC; variability; determinant of exposure; overexposure; dermal exposure; Occupational medicine; Yrkesmedicin; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of the studies underlying this thesis were to assess workers’ air exposure to wood dust and various chemicals, and to evaluate the variability in exposure and occupational dermal exposure to resin acids during the production of wood pellets in Sweden. Personal air measurements of wood dust, monoterpenes, resin acids and nitrogen dioxide (as a marker of diesel exhaust), accompanied by area measurements of these substances, VOCs and carbon monoxide, were performed at up to ten plants. 2. 2. Monitoring of occupational exposure to antineoplastic drugs

    Författare :Maria Hedmer; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; industrial medicine; Occupational health; plasma; urine; renal clearance; risk evaluation; biological monitoring; air monitoring; wipe sampling; occupational exposure; ifosfamide; antineoplastic drugs; cyclophosphamide; Yrkesmedicin; arbetsmiljömedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Antineoplastic drugs are commonly used in the medical treatment of cancer and some other diseases. Workplaces e.g. hospital pharmacies and wards where antineoplastic drugs are used are contaminated with these drugs and health care workers are therefore at risk of getting occupationally exposed. 3. 3. Levels of brominated flame retardants in humans and their environment : occupational and home exposure

    Författare :Marie Karlsson; Bert van Bavel; Bo Strandberg; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; PBDE; BTBPE; DeBDethane; plasma; air; dust; Northern fulmar; egg; household; occupational exposure; Chemistry; Kemi; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Plasma from workers at an electronic dismantling plant were analysed for tri- to heptaBDEs (brominated diphenyl ethers), during 18 months. The different exposed groups showed concentrations ranging from 0.06to 2.8 ng g-1 (l. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Strategies for assessing health risks from two occupational cohorts within the domain of northern Sweden

    Författare :Ove Björ; Tohr Nilsson; Håkan Jonsson; Lena Damber; Per Gustavsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cohort; mortality; incidence; risk; rate; cancer; cerebrovascular diseases; exposure; occupational; mining; industry; worker; Poisson regression; Cox regression; SMR; causal inference; G-estimation; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin; epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Studies based on a cohort design requires access to both subject-specific and period-specific information. In order to conduct an occupational cohort study, access to exposure information and the possibility and permission to link information on outcomes from other registers are generally necessary. 5. 5. Setting occupational exposure limits : Practices and outcomes of toxicological risk assessment

    Författare :Linda Schenk; Christina Rudén; Alan Boobis; Michael Gilek; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Assessment Factor; DNEL; Euroepan Union; Occupational Exposure Limit; REACH; Risk Assessment; Regulatory Toxicology; SCOEL; Uncertainty Factor; Toxicology; Toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs) are used as an important regulatory instrument to protect workers’ health from adverse effects of chemical exposures. The main objective of this thesis is to study risk assessment practices in the setting of OEL in order to produce knowledge that will help improve the consistency and transparency of OELs. LÄS MER
