  1. 21. Health effects of heatwaves : short and long term predictions

    Författare :Christofer Åström; Bertil Forsberg; Kristie L. Ebi; Scott Sheridan; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heatwave; health impact assessment; early warning system; mortality; morbidity; climate change;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Climate change is defined by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change as changes in the state of the climate associated with changes in the mean and/or the variability of its properties. Climate change will affect temperatures both as an increase in mean temperature as well as changes in the frequency of temperature extremes. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Pain in the neck : Neck and upper limb disorders in women, the role of work related and other exposure factors

    Författare :Marianne Gerner Björkstén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Neck; shoulders; musculoskeletal; female workers; work related; non-work related; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; arbets- och miljömedicin; Occupational and Environmental Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Musculoskeletal disorders is of importance for society, both because of the suffering of the individualsand because of the high economic cost to society resulting from the impairment and from sick leave.Cervicobrachial syndrome was 1985 included in the WHO definition 'Work related musculoskeletaldiseases' (WMSDs). 3. 23. Heat exposure and health outcomes in Costa Rican sugarcane harvesters

    Författare :Jennifer Crowe; Maria Nilsson; Tord Kjellström; Catharina Wesseling; Linda Forst; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Agricultural worker; Central America; Chronic kidney disease; Climate change; Dehydration; Heat; Heat illness; Heat stress; Sugarcane; Urinalysis; Worker health; folkhälsa; Public health; Epidemiology; epidemiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background The remarkably efficient mechanisms of the human body to maintain its core temperature of 37°C can be inadequate when harsh climatic conditions and excessive muscle movement lead to heat stress, dehydration and potential heat illness, ranging from minor symptoms such as fatigue to a potentially fatal heat stroke. Agricultural workers in the tropics are at high risk, which is expected to increase with climate change. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Characterization of Aerosols Related to Occupational and Public Environments as Applied to Isocyanates and Road Wear

    Författare :Andreas Dahl; Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to characterize a personal denuder/filter sampler for isocyanate aerosol and to study the emission of airborne particles from the interaction between studded tires and pavements. Both types of aerosols are highly relevant for health studies in public and occupational environments. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Toxicokinetics of inhaled trimethylbenzenes in man

    Författare :Jill Järnberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; trimethylbenzene; dimethylhippuric acid; white spirit; toxicokinetics; biological monitoring; human; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; arbets- och miljömedicin; Occupational and Environmental Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : In the toxicological risk assessment, data on the uptake and disposition (toxicokinetics) of the chemical is important. The three isomeric trimethylbenzenes (TMBs) are widely used as components in solvent mixtures and motor fuels. LÄS MER
