11. Multi-platform metabolomics assays to study the responsiveness of the human plasma and lung lavage metabolome
Sammanfattning : Metabolomics as a field has been used to track changes and perturbations in the human body by investigating metabolite profiles indicating the change of metabolite levels over time and in response to different challenges. In this thesis work, the main focus was on applying multiplatform-metabolomics to study the human metabolome following exposure to perturbations, such as diet (in the form of a challenge meal) and exhaust emissions (air pollution exposure in a controlled setting). 12. Hairdressers' occupational exposure to carcinogenic aromatic amines
Sammanfattning : The hairdresser occupation is classified as probably carcinogenic to humans based on an excess risk for urinary bladder cancer, but it is unclear if current work as a hairdresser entails such a risk. The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate if hairdressers have an ongoing exposure to selected carcinogenic aromatic amines. LÄS MER
13. Chemical exposure in the work place : mental models of workers and experts
Sammanfattning : Many workers are daily exposed to chemical risks in their work place that has to be assessed and controlled. Due to exposure variability, repeated and random measurements should be conducted for valid estimates of the average exposure. LÄS MER
14. Occupational skin exposure to cobalt : origin and fate
Sammanfattning : Exposure to cobalt is not without risk. Besides adverse health effects on the respiratory system, cobalt is one of the most important sensitising metals with a contact allergy prevalence of 2.2% in the general population. Sources of exposure to cobalt in the general population are diffuse. LÄS MER
15. Metabolism and Biological Monitoring of Organic Acid Anhydrides
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to describe the metabolism and to develope methods for biological monitoring for two organic acid anhydrides (OAAs), namely hexahydrophthalic anhydride (HHPA) and methylhexa-hydrophthalic anhydride (MHHPA). The OAAs are reactive, low molecular weight chemicals used in vast quantities in the industry. LÄS MER
