1. Pre-Crash and In-Crash Car Occupant Safety Assessment
Sammanfattning : Tens of millions are annually injured in Road Traffic Accidents (RTAs) worldwide, while the estimated number of RTA fatalities amounted to 1.35 million in 2016. In Europe, car occupants hold the largest share (48%) of fatalities among all road users. The high fatality and injury numbers motivate the work of enhancing road traffic safety. LÄS MER
2. Heterogeneity in Car Occupant Safety
Sammanfattning : This thesis ultimately aims to enhance occupant protection by incorporating aspects of real-world crash heterogeneity, often overlooked within current safety assessments. By investigating the effects of crash heterogeneity and broadening the comprehensiveness of occupant safety assessments, it seeks to support the development of more effective future vehicle safety systems. 3. Does spinal alignment influence car occupant responses? -The influence of variation in whole spinal alignment patterns on vertebral kinematics under rear impact conditions-
Sammanfattning : The susceptibility of women to Whiplash Associated Disorders (WADs) has been the focus of numerous epidemiologic studies. Summarising the epidemiologic WAD studies, women were found to be subject to up to three times higher risk of sustaining WADs than men. LÄS MER
4. Interaction between humans and car seats : studies of occupant seat adjustment, posture, position, and real world neck injuries in rear-end impacts
Sammanfattning : Background: The latest generation of rear-end whiplash protection systems, as found in the WHIPS Volvo and SAHR Saab, have reduced injury rates by almost 50% in comparison with the previous generation of seat/head restraint systems. Occupant behaviour, such as seated posture and seat adjustment settings, may affect the injury risk. LÄS MER
5. Computer Manikins in Evaluation of Manual Assembly Tasks
Sammanfattning : Digital human modelling (DHM) tools have been introduced in industry to facilitate a faster and more cost efficient design process. The research in this thesis is directed towards the DHM-tool-users’ needs and the objective is to identify difficulties and shortcomings, and identify requirements for improving the output of DHM-simulations.
