  1. 1. Gait re-education in transfemoral amputees The training programme, gait analysis, oxygen consumption and coping

    Författare :Catharina Sjödahl Hammarlund; Människan i rörelse: hälsa och rehabilitering; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physical medicine; kinesitherapy; revalidation; rehabilitation; a psychologically conscious therapeutic approach; coping; energy cost; oxygen consumption; motion analysis; gait speed; amputees; training; gait re-education; Rehabilitering medicinsk och social ;

    Sammanfattning : A gait re-education programme, combining physiotherapy with a psychologically conscious therapeutic approach, was applied to nine unilateral transfemoral amputees, whose amputation was caused by trauma or tumour. The participants trained once a week for a mean 10 months. The median age was 33 years (range 16– 51). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Parental and embryonic behaviours in precocial birds

    Författare :Irene Persson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pheasants; growth rate; oxygen consumption; hatch synchronization; incubation behaviour; nest predation; physical condition; Egg laying; primary sex ratio; mallards; Animal ecology; Djurekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with behaviours during reproduction in precocial birds, both from the perspective of the female and of the embryos. Female pheasants in good physical condition laid larger eggs and produced a higher proportion of daughters than females in poor condition. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Seagrass Respiration : An assessment of oxygen consumption patterns of temperate marine macrophytes

    Författare :Lina M. Rasmusson; Mats Björk; Martin Gullström; Katharina Pawlowski; Jonas Collén; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mitochondrial respiration; Photorespiration; Seagrass productivity; Zostera marina; Marine carbon budgets; Ruppia maritima; Ulva intestinalis; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In coastal seas, the abundance of marine macrophytes has profound influence on the flows of oxygen and inorganic carbon through the water. Vast amounts of carbon dioxide are taken up by photosynthesis and part of this is respired back into the water column. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Diabetes-induced Alterations in Renal Microcirculation and Metabolism

    Författare :Fredrik Palm; Per Liss; Peter Hansell; Per-Ola Carlsson; Gerald DiBona; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; diabetes mellitus; kidney; nephropathy; oxygen tension; haemodynamic; nitric oxide; oxygen consumption; radical oxygen species; polyol pathway; Fysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes-induced renal complications, i.e. diabetes nephropathy, are a major cause of morbidity and mortality. The exact mechanism mediating the negative influence of hyperglycaemia on renal function is unclear, although several hypotheses have been postulated. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Severe Hemodilution - Clinical and Experimental Studies

    Författare :Valéria Perez de Sá; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; shivering; critical oxygen delivery; oxygen consumption; child; dextran; hypothermia; hemodilution; anemia; Anaesthesiology; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård; lactates;

    Sammanfattning : In children, it is often desirable to minimize allogenic blood transfusion, and this thesis explores the physiology of an alternative method of managing perioperative blood loss: hemodilution with Ringer´s dextran. Methods Clinical studies: Arterial pressure, superior caval venous oxygen saturation (ScvO2) and blood lactate concentration (L) were studied during bone marrow harvesting (BMH) on 23 occasions in 19 children, 1-17 years of age, with healthy hearts and lungs.
