  1. 1. Genetics and Labor Pain Behavior

    Författare :Fatimah Dabo Pettersson; Helena Åkerud; Inger Sundström Poromaa; Fred Nyberg; Pelle Lindqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; anxiety; beta-endorphin; depressed mood; GCH1; labor analgesia; labor pain; OPRM1; SNP; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Sammanfattning : Labor may perhaps be the most painful a woman might experience, although characterized by large inter-individual variability. The perceived pain during labor is the result of diverse factors, i.e. her previous pain experiences, the analgesia she receives and maybe also her genes. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Alcohol Consumption among Adolescents : Psychosocial and Genetic influences

    Författare :Erika Comasco; Kent W. Nilsson; Lars Oreland; Rainer Spanagel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :adolescents; alcohol; biomarkers; depression; drinking motives; FAEE; gene environment interaction; interview; OPRM1; PER2; PEth; questionnaire; sleep; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis is based on four studies focusing on alcohol consumption among Swedish adolescents, and therewith related psychosocial and genetic factors. One main objective was to study the reasons for drinking alcohol among different population - representative samples of adolescents in order to identify motives for drinking. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Provoked vestibulodynia : studies on pain genetics and pain co-morbidity

    Författare :Ulrika Heddini; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :provoked vestibulodynia;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: The purpose of this thesis was to investigate a possible genetic predisposition for developing provoked vestibulodynia (PVD), focusing on previously defined single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in three genes with a known influence on endogenous pain modulation: GCH1, OPRM1 and 5HT-2A. We also investigated the effects of any potential interactions between these SNPs and the use of hormonal contraceptives, serum levels of β-endorphin and symptoms of anxiety and depression, on the risk of developing PVD and general pain sensitivity. 4. 4. Practical and clinical use of opioids

    Författare :Salumeh Bastami; Srinivas Uppugunduri; Johan Ahlner; Peter Höglund; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Pain is a common symptom of a number of conditions including cancer and one of the most frequent reasons for seeking healthcare. Acute and chronic pain result in considerable discomfort with a detrimental impact on the quality of life. Opioids are the mainstay of pain management for many patients with severe pain. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Long-term Effects of Opioids in the Treatment of Chronic Pain : Investigation of Problems and Hazards on Clinical, Biochemical, Cellular and Genetic Levels

    Författare :Annica Rhodin; Torsten Gordh; Fred Nyberg; Mats Stridsberg; Mats Enlund; Harald Breivik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; opioid; chonic pain; long-term opioid treatment; Anaesthetics; Anestesiologi; Anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology;

    Sammanfattning : After two decades of liberal prescribing of opioids, there has been an increasing recognition of problems connected to the prolonged use of opioids for chronic pain. The aim of my thesis was to explore some consequences of long-term opioid treatment for chronic pain such as problematic opioid use, endocrine disorders, tolerance and genetic variations in pain and opioid response.
