    Sammanfattning : Background: Squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN)comprises a large group of tumours including the oral cavity and nasopharyngealarea, and typically affects older males in association with alcohol/tobacco usage.Within the oral cavity, the mobile tongue is the most common site for tumourdevelopment. 2. 2. Responses to External Cues in Oral Bacteria

    Författare :Carolina Robertsson; Claes Wickström; Gunnel Svensäter; Julia R Davies; Mattias Collin; Malmö universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oral Microbiology; Oral Biofilms; Saliva; Salivary mucin MUC5B; Streptococcus; Actinomyces;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates responses to external cues in oral bacteria on a molecular level. Paper I maps Ser/Thr/Tyr phosphorylated proteins in relation to the general proteome in an oral commensal streptococcus (Streptococcus gordonii DL1). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Novel Insights into Inflammatory Disturbed Bone Remodelling

    Författare :Elin Kindstedt; Pernilla Lundberg; Östen Ljunggren; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bone; osteoblast; osteoclast; chemokines; CCL11; periodontitis; rheumatoid arthritis; innate lympoid cells; odontologi; Odontology; immunologi; Immunology; biology; biologi; reumatologi; rheumatology;

    Sammanfattning : Bone is a dynamic tissue that is continuously remodelled, a process that requires equal amounts of osteoclastic bone resorption and osteoblastic bone formation. Inflammation may disturb the equilibrium and result in local and/or systemic bone loss. Negative bone mass balance occurs in several chronic inflammatory diseases, e.g. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and inflammatory bone modeling

    Författare :Ali Kassem; Ulf Lerner; Pernilla Lundberg; Pedro Souza; Timothy Arnett; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Toll-like receptor; osteoclast; osteoblast; bone resorption; bone formation; P. gingivalis; S. aureus; flagellin.;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with inflammatory or infectious conditions such as periodontitis, peri-implantitis, osteomyelitis, rheumatoid arthritis, septic arthritis and loosened joint prosthesis display varying severity of destruction in the adjacent bone tissue. Bone loss in inflammatory diseases is considered a consequence of cytokine induced RANKL and subsequent enhanced osteoclast formation. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Effects of antiresorptive agents on inflammation and bone regeneration in different osseous sites - experimental and clinical studies

    Sammanfattning : The biological mechanisms involved in bone regeneration in osteoporotic bone and the effect of antiresorptive drugs in relation to surgically inserted biomaterials are not fully understood. Improved osseointegration of titanium implants but also adverse effects of antiresorptive therapies, such as osteonecrotic jaw have been described in the literature. LÄS MER
