1. Dynamic Soil-Structure Interaction Analysis of Railway Bridges : Numerical and Experimental Results
Sammanfattning : The work reported in this thesis presents a general overview of the dynamic response of short-span railway bridges considering soil-structure interaction. The study aims to identify the effect of the surrounding and underlying soil on the global stiffness and damping of the structural system. LÄS MER
2. Rock mass behavior under hydropower embankment dams : results from numerical analyses
Sammanfattning : Bridges are an important element of the infrastructure today. The technical competence has reached high levels in most countries and the limits given to a bridge designer are set by economic restrictions rather than technical skill. LÄS MER
3. The synthetic chromosphere : Results and techniques with a numerical approach
Sammanfattning : Realistic numerical simulations of the solar atmosphere can be used to interpret different phenomena observed on the solar surface. To gain insight into the atmospheric physical conditions, we compare the observations with 3D radiative magnetohydrodynamic models combined with forward modeling (radiative transfer). LÄS MER
4. On dental ceramics and their fracture : a laboratory and numerical study
Sammanfattning : Background Surface treatments and irregularities in the surfaces may affect the fracture of ceramics. The effects of various treatments on the surface texture of different types of ceramic cores/substructures was therefore qualitatively, quantitatively and numerically evaluated. LÄS MER
5. Instability in Settling Fibres : A Numerical Study
Sammanfattning : Sedimenting suspensions exist in a varity of natural phenomena and industrial applications. It is already observed in experiments that the dilute fibre suspensions experience a concentration instability under gravity at low Reynolds numbers. Initially well-mixed suspensions become inhomogeneous and anisotropic due to this instability. LÄS MER
