  1. 1. Numerical methods for parameterized linear systems

    Författare :Siobhán Correnty; Elias Jarlebring; Johan Karlsson; Kirk M. Soodhalter; Andrew J. Wathen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Parameterized linear systems; Krylov subspace methods; preconditioning; tensor decompositions; shifted linear systems; parameterized partial differential equations; time-delay systems; transfer functions; parameter estimation problems; Parameteriserade linjära system; Krylov-metoder; förkonditionering; tensordekomposition; skiftade linjära system; parametriserade partiella differentialekvationer; tidsfördröjningssystem; överföringsfunktioner; parameteruppskattningsproblem; Numerical Analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Sammanfattning : Solving linear systems of equations is a fundamental problem in engineering. Moreover, applications involving the solution to linear systems arise in the social sciences, business, and economics. Specifically, the research conducted in this dissertation explores solutions to linear systems where the system matrix depends nonlinearly on a parameter. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Numerical approaches to droplet growth in atmospheric turbulence

    Författare :Xiang-Yu Li; Axel Brandenburg; Gunilla Svensson; Luca Brandt; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; turbulence; coagulation; condensation; rain formation; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : The bottleneck problem of cloud droplet growth is one of the most challenging problems in cloud physics. Cloud droplet growth is neither dominated by con-densation nor gravitational collision in the size range of 15–40 μm in radius. Turbulence-generated collision has been thought to be the mechanism to bridge the size gap, i.e. LÄS MER

  3. 3. FRCM-Composites for Strengthening Concrete Walls with Openings : Experimental and Numerical Analysis

    Författare :Cristian Sabau; Björn Täljsten; Thomas Blanksvärd; Gabriel Sas; Cosmin Popescu; Thanasis C. Triantafillou; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; FRCM; reinforced concrete; walls; openings; strenghtening; Structural Engineering; Konstruktionsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Upgrading existing buildings to new functional requirements may require new openings that can weaken the structure, prompting the need for strengthening. In such cases, traditional strengthening solutions, such as creating a reinforced concrete or steel frame around the opening, imply long-term restrictions in the use of the structure. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Closing the Loop by Combining UASB Reactor and Reactive Bed Filetr Technology for wastewater Treatment : Modelling and Practical Approaches

    Författare :Raúl Rodríguez-Gómez; Gunno Renman; Björn Vinnerås; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bench-scale experiment; Modelling; Polonite; Sorbulite; UASB; Wastewater; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : A laboratory-scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor followed by a packed bed reactor (PBR) filled with Sorbulite® in the lower part and Polonite® in the upper part was used to treat household wastewater in a 50-week experiment. A model was developed to describe the performance of the UASB reactor, including mass transfer through the film around anaerobic granules, intra-particle diffusion and bioconversion of the substrate. 5. 5. Analytical and numerical approaches to estimate peak shear strength of rock joints

    Författare :Francisco Ríos Bayona; Stefan Larsson; Fredrik Johansson; Diego Mas Ivars; José Muralha; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rock joint; Shear strength; Failure criterion; Numerical shear tests; Bergsprickor; Skjuvhållfasthet; Brottkriterium; Numeriska skjuvförsök; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : In Sweden, there exists a large number of dams. Many of them are founded on rock masses normally affected by the presence of sub-horizontal rock fractures, which makes sliding along rock joints under the dam foundation one of the most critical failure mechanism. LÄS MER
