  1. 1. Myosin 1c taking adrenergic metabolism for a spin : More than a motor protein

    Författare :Alice Åslund; Tore Bengtsson; Michael Czech; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glucose uptake; Glucose transporter; Brown adipose tissue; White adipose tissue; Skeletal muscle; Myosin1c; Nuclear myosin I; Physiology; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Metabolic diseases like type II diabetes (T2D) and obesity largely stems from an unbalanced energy homeostasis with the fails of the insulin pathway to the point in which the glucose homeostasis is severely disturbed leading to hyperglycemia. We have investigated if the β-adrenergic signaling pathways, in both brown adipose tissue (BAT) and skeletal muscle, could be used as a strategy to alleviate metabolic disease. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Actin and myosin in transcription and chromatin regulation

    Författare :Bader Almuzzaini; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In mammalian cells, actin and myosin have emerged as regulators of nuclear structure and function, involved in chromatin remodeling and histone modifications, and in different phases of gene transcription. Actin and myosin have also been shown to be incorporated into nascent ribonucleoprotein complexes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Chromatin remodelling in Pol I and III transcription

    Författare :Erica Cavellán; Ann-Kristin Östlund Farrants; Gernot Längst; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Compaction of chromosomes in the eukaryotic cell is due to interactions between DNA and proteins and interactions between proteins. These two types of interaction form a dynamic structure, known as "chromatin". The condensation of chromatin must be carefully regulated, since the structure is an obstacle for factors that need access to the DNA. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Gene regulation by nuclear hormone receptors in vivo

    Författare :Anethe Mansén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The nuclear hormone receptor superfamily contains 49 different members, including those for thyroid hormone, TR? and TR?. These receptors are ligand-modulated transcription factors that activate or repress gene activity. The TR? gene encodes two main splice variants, TR?1 and TR?2. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Transcriptional regulation of ribosomal RNA gene : actin, myosin and beyond

    Författare :Aishe Angeletti Sarshad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In the eukaryotic cell nucleus, actin and nuclear myosin 1c (NM1) are key regulators of RNA polymerase I (Pol I) transcription and function across the entire ribosomal RNA biogenesis pathway. At the gene level, actin interacts with Pol I and together with NM1 they have been suggested to facilitate assembly of Pol I at the gene promoter. LÄS MER
