  1. 1. Studies of Nuclear Fuel by Means of Nuclear Spectroscopic Methods

    Författare :Peter Jansson; Roland Carchon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiation sciences; irradiated nuclear fuel; nuclear spectroscopy; tomography; safeguard; Strålningsvetenskap; Radiation biology; Strålningsbiologi; Kärnfysik; Nuclear Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The increasing demand for characterization of nuclear fuel, both from an operator and authority point of view, motivates the development of new experimental and, preferable, non-destructive methods. In this thesis, some methods based on nuclear spectroscopic techniques are presented. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The long-term nuclear explosives predicament : final disposal of military usable fissile material in nuclear waste from nuclear power and from the elimination of nuclear weapons

  3. 3. Studies of Nuclear Fuel Performance Using On-site Gamma-ray Spectroscopy and In-pile Measurements

    Författare :Ingvar Matsson; Anders Bäcklin; Ane Håkansson; Björn Grapengiesser; Riitta Kyrky-Rajamäki; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Nuclear physics; fission gas release; nuclear fuel; core physics; gamma-ray spectroscopy; LOKET; thermal power; burnup; fuel failure; validation; cladding; Kärnfysik;

    Sammanfattning : Presently there is a clear trend of increasing demands on in-pile performance of nuclear fuel. Higher target burnups, part length rods and various fuel additives are some examples of this trend. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Studies of Cherenkov light production in irradiated nuclear fuel assemblies

    Författare :Erik Branger; Sophie Grape; Anders Hjalmarsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DCVD; Cherenkov light; Geant4; Nuclear fuel; Nuclear safeguards; Fysik med inriktning mot tillämpad kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Applied Nuclear Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The Digital Cherenkov Viewing Device (DCVD) is an instrument used by authority inspectors to assess irradiated nuclear fuel assemblies in wet storage for the purpose of nuclear safeguards. Originally developed to verify the presence of fuel assemblies with long cooling times and low burnup, the DCVD accuracy is sufficient for partial defect verification, where one verifies that part of an assembly has not been diverted. 5. 5. A Tomographic Measurement Technique for Irradiated Nuclear Fuel Assemblies

    Författare :Staffan Jacobsson Svärd; Anders Bäcklin; Ane Håkansson; Klaas van der Meer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; tomography; nuclear fuel; SPECT; core physics; validation; pin power; safeguards; partial-defect verification; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik;

    Sammanfattning : The fuel assemblies used at the Swedish nuclear power plants contain typically between 100 and 300 fuel rods. An experimental technique has been demanded for determining the relative activities of specific isotopes in individual fuel rods without dismantling the assemblies. LÄS MER
