11. Concentrated DNA-amphiphiles Structure, Hydration, and Dynamics
Sammanfattning : The structure, hydration, and dynamics of concentrated DNA-amphiphile complexes were investigated by small-angle X-ray diffraction, sorption calorimetry, and nuclear magnetic resonance. A concentrated, electroneutral, DNA-amphiphile complex can be formed by mixing charge-stoichiometric solutions. LÄS MER
12. DNA-dependent protein kinase in human cells
Sammanfattning : DNA-dependent protein kinase (DNA-PK) is a holoenzyme consisting of a regulatory subunit, the heterodimeric Ku70/86, and a catalytic subunit known as DNA-dependent protein kinase catalytic subunit (DNA-PKcs). DNA-PK takes part in a number of cellular functions including growth control, immunoglobulin gene rearrangement and DNA repair. LÄS MER
13. DNA vaccines and bacterial DNA in immunity
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes DNA-based vaccination and the importance of bacterial DNA in different immunological perspectives. Intranasal (i.n.) DNA vaccination utilizing a plasmid encoding the chlamydial heat shock protein 60 (p-hsp-60) generated lower bacterial burden and reduced pathology in the lungs of mice after subsequent infection with C. 14. Species Limits and Systematics in Some Passerine Birds
Sammanfattning : I use morphological, vocal, molecular, behavioural, ecological and distributional data to re-evaluate the systematics of three passerine bird groups, the Mirafraassamica complex (bush-larks), the genus Seicercus ("spectacled-warblers"; with emphasis on the the S. burkii complex) and the genus Motacilla (wagtails). 15. Inflammatogenic properties of endogenous DNA
Sammanfattning : Bacterial DNA and CpG-containing oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs) induce host inflammatory responses as a result of their content of unmethylated ¡§CpG motifs¡¨. Since the CpG motifs in the mitochondrial (mt) genome are in this respect similar to bacterial DNA, in that they are non-methylated, we investigated whether mtDNA also displays inflammatogenic potential.
