16. Holocene climate and environmental dynamics on the Tristan da Cunha island group, South Atlantic
Sammanfattning : It has been shown that the present interglacial has been climatically dynamic with both rapid and severe climatic fluctuations. The spatial and temporal differences of these changes are however not fully resolved. The aim of this thesis is to present a detail high resolution record of past climate changes from the central South Atlantic. LÄS MER
17. Dynamics and Variability of the Circulation in the North-Atlantic Subpolar Seas
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the dynamics and circulation in the northern North Atlantic and the Nordic Seas, processes of crucial importance for the mild climate of Scandinavia and Northern Europe. High-resolution ADCP scans of currents from Greenland to Scotland in the top 400 m demonstrate that the Reykjanes Ridge is a very effective separator of flow towards the Nordic and Labrador Seas, respectively. 18. Biostratigraphic implications of Neogene diatom abundances in the Norwegian Sea, the North Atlantic and the western North Pacific
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of three separate articles and are mainly concerned with the taxonomy of species from the genus Thalassiosira and quantitative diatom biostratigraphy in three oceanic regions of the northern hemisphere. The study material consists of Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Holes 642B, 642C and 644A at about 67°N in the Norwegian Sea, Deep Sea Drilling Project (DSDP) Hole 552A at 56 N in the North Atlantic, and DSDP Site 578 at 34°N in the northwest Pacific. 19. Inter-annual variability of rainfall in Central America : Connection with global and regional climate modulators
Sammanfattning : Central America is a region regularly affected by natural disasters, with most of them having a hydro-meteorological origin. Therefore, the understanding of annual changes of precipitation upon the region is relevant for planning and mitigation of natural disasters. LÄS MER
20. MODEL STUDIES OF FISH EGG AND LARVAL TRANSPORT IN THE KATTEGAT AND THE NORTH ATLANTIC
Sammanfattning : For the early life stages of fish, the dispersal and retention are important factors regarding present and future survivorship, growth and reproduction. The main objective of this thesis is to analyse fish egg and larval transport in two different marine systems, the Kattegat and the North Atlantic. LÄS MER
