  1. 11. Probing and elucidating the dynamics of virus-membrane interaction via plasma membrane mimics

    Författare :Konrad Thorsteinsson; Marta Bally; Hudson Pace; Gisa Gerold; Susan Daniel; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plasma membrane; supported lipid bilayer; binding kinetics; equilibrium fluctuation analysis; TIRF; FRET; norovirus; HSV; SARS-CoV-2; histo-blood group antigens; ApoE; heparan sulfate; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Virus infection is initiated by the attachment of a virion to a susceptible cell’s plasma membrane, in a highly dynamic and well-orchestrated process that encompasses various steps and engages numerous viral and cellular factors. These dynamic steps may include initial non-specific binding to ubiquitous cell-membrane ligands, diffusion across the membrane to a suitable entry site and virus engagement with various receptors and co-receptors on the cell surface. 2. 12. Acute febrile illness in preschool children in Zanzibar - Infectious aetiologies, diagnosis and treatment

    Författare :Kristina Elfving; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Children; Infections; Low-income country; Tanzania; malaria; pneumonia; antibiotics; fever; diagnosis; polymerase chain reaction; preschool; influenza virus; Respiratory syncytial virus; diarrhoea; norovirus; dengue virus;

    Sammanfattning : Background: A majority of the three million children in Africa that do not survive their fifth birthday die from infections that often start as a seemingly uncomplicated febrile illness. Primary health care workers frequently encounter febrile children with a negative malaria rapid diagnostic test (mRDT), in particular in places like Zanzibar with a considerable decline in malaria prevalence. 3. 13. Gastrointestinal norovirus infections and the development of the next generation of mucosal vaccines

    Författare :Inga Rimkute; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human norovirus; gastrointestinal infection; mucosal vaccine; subcomponent vaccine; human intestinal enteroids; histo-blood group antigens; lipidomics; glycoproteomics; glycosphingolipids;

    Sammanfattning : Human norovirus (HuNoV) is the causative agent of the winter vomiting disease and the leading cause of outbreaks of gastrointestinal infections across all settings and age groups in the world. The virus is highly contagious making outbreaks difficult or often impossible to control and having a high impact on societal costs and resources. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Host genetic risk factors to viral diseases - a double-edged sword : Studies of norovirus and tick-borne encephalitis virus

    Författare :Elin Kindberg; Lennart Svensson; Jorma Hinkula; Bertil Lindblom; Tomas Bergström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Virology; Virologi;

    Sammanfattning : It is today well known that the outcome of a certain infection depends on factors of both the host and the pathogen. Studies of host genetic susceptibility to infectious diseases aim to increase the understanding of why some individuals are more susceptible than others, to a certain infection. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Studies on interactions of norovirus capsid protein with fucosylated glycans and galactosylceramide as soluble and membrane bound ligands

    Författare :Waqas Nasir; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Norovirus-glycan interactions;

    Sammanfattning : Noroviruses (NVs) are among the most common viral pathogens which target the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and cause severe diarrhea, vomiting and episodes of abdominal cramps with fever. Millions of people around the world get infected with NVs annually, of which 200,000 cases are estimated to be fatal. LÄS MER
