  1. 1. The Colonization Strategies of Nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae - Bacterial Colonization Factors and Vaccine Development

    Författare :Farshid Jalalvand; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ABC-transporter; bacterial colonization; Haemophilus influenzae; Haemophilus Protein F; laminin; NTHi; pathogenesis; vaccine; virulence; vitronectin.;

    Sammanfattning : Nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) is a remarkably proficient colonizer of the human respiratory tract. The aim of this thesis has been to characterize currently known, and identify novel, bacterial factors involved in the key processes of colonization and pathogenesis, namely adherence to host tissue and evasion of the host innate immunity. 2. 2. Haemophilus influenzae – typing, epidemiology and beta-lactam resistance

    Författare :Viktor Månsson; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; benzylpenicillin; beta-lactam resistance; beta-lactams; BLNAR; capsule typing; clonal; Haemophiilus influenzae; Hib; MALDI-TOF MS; MLST; NTHi; serotyping; virulence; epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : Haemophilus influenzae is a common cause of respiratory tract infections such as acute otitis media (AOM), exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and pneumonia. The species is subdivided into encapsulated and non-encapsulated strains, designated type a-f and nontypeable H. influenzae (NTHi), respectively. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Haemophilus influenzae adhesins and the innate immune response

    Författare :Elena Ronander; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; inflammation; Haemophilus influenzae; Haemophilus surface fibrils; complement; innate immune response; protein E; respiratory epithelium; adhesins;

    Sammanfattning : Haemophilus influenzae is a human specific Gram-negative respiratory tract pathogen. Encapsulated H. influenzae strains exist in six different serotypes a-f, of which type b (Hib) is the most virulent. Hib is protected by the polysaccharide capsule when invading the blood circulaton and may cause diseases such as meningitis and epiglottitis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Characterization of nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae innate interactions with human cells

    Författare :Irini Lazou Ahrén; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mykologi; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; inflammation; TLR4; LBP; protein D; nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae; beta-glucan;

    Sammanfattning : Non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) is a human pathogen causing diseases in the upper and lower respiratory tract. Otitis media-prone children and adults with cystic fibrosis or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, are repeatedly infected by NTHi Research in recent years brought to light the entry and survival of NTHi in epithelial cells and macrophages. 5. 5. Haemophilus influenzae-induced acute otitis media. Aspects of virulence and protection in an animal model

    Författare :Åsa Melhus; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bacteriology; Microbiology; conjugate vaccine; protection; virulence; acute otitis media; Haemophilus influenzae; animal model; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Acute otitis media (AOM) is the most common illness diagnosed during early childhood. One of the major etiologic agents is Haemophilus influenzae. Apart from AOM, this organism can cause a broad range of infectious diseases such as meningitis, epiglottitis, arthritis, and pneumonia. Despite the importance of H. LÄS MER
