  1. 1. Local Polynomial Regression with Application on Lidar Measurements

    Författare :Torgny Lindström; Matematisk statistik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics; Matematik; differential equations; Funktioner; differentialekvationer; variance-function estimation.; spatial dependence; nonparametric; local polynomial regression; local bandwidth selection; lidar; heteroscedasticity; Bivariate estimation; differential absorption; Functions;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the problem of estimating a function or one of its derivatives from a set of measurements, mainly of a bivariate or spatial nature which is so common in environmental applications. In this work particular attention has been on the lidar (light detection and ranging) application which is a versatile technique for measurement of among other things atmospheric trace gases. 2. 2. Nonparametric Functional Estimation under Order Restrictions

    Författare :Dragi Anevski; Matematisk statistik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; monotonicity; convexity; deconvolution; kernel smoothing; NPMLE; long range dependence; greatest convex minorant; mixing; Density estimation; limit distribution.; regression; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of three papers (Papers A-C) on problems in nonparametric functional estimation, in particular density and regression function estimation and deconvolution, under order assumptions. Pointwise limit distribution results are stated for the obtained estimators, which include isotonic regression estimates, nonparametric maximum likelihood estimates of monotone densities, estimates of convex regression and density functions and deconvolution estimates. 3. 3. Selection of smoothing parameters with application in causal inference

    Författare :Jenny Häggström; Xavier de Luna; Marie Wiberg; Yanyuan Ma; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Smoothing parameter selection; Nonparametric regression; Semiparametric additive model; Double smoothing; Causal inference; BMI; Divorce; Statistics; Statistik; Statistics; statistik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is a contribution to the research area concerned with selection of smoothing parameters in the framework of nonparametric and semiparametric regression. Selection of smoothing parameters is one of the most important issues in this framework and the choice can heavily influence subsequent results. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Chapter 2 analyses the relationship between capital structure and industry classification of Swedish firms. This study also analyses the determinants of the capital structure at the industry level. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Position Estimation and Tracking in Colloidal Particle Microscopy

    Författare :Mats Kvarnström; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :censored regression; colloidal chemistry; depth estimation; diffusion coefficient; nonparametric function estimation; position estimation; rotational symmetry; tracking; template matching; video microscopy; rotational symmetry;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents methods for estimating the locations (including depth) of spherical colloidal particles in images recorded in video microscopy. Understanding the behavior of colloidal interactions and diffusion is of crucial importance in a vast number of areas. LÄS MER
