1. Treatment of Temporomandibular Disorders of Arthrogeneous Origin. Controlled double-blind studies of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug and a stabilisation appliance
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to prospectively evaluate the short-term effect of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (diclofenac sodium, Voltaren) and stabilisation appliance in controlled trials of patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD) of arthrogeneous origin. The active treatments were compared to placebo in the study of diclofenac and to a control appliance in the other study. LÄS MER
2. Fatty acid amide hydrolase - A target for anti-inflammatory therapies?
Sammanfattning : Anti-inflammatory drugs are a widely used class of therapeutic agents, but the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) is hampered by their gastrointestinal side-effects. Recent reports that cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors may cause cardiovascular events underline the importance of identifying new therapeutic strategies for the treatment of inflammation. LÄS MER
3. Faecal Calprotectin Diagnostics : Focus on Primary Care and Suspected Sources of Error
Sammanfattning : Patients with gastrointestinal symptoms often present a diagnostic challenge for general practitioners. Faecal calprotectin (FC) is commonly used as a marker of intestinal inflammation and is useful for differentiating between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), as well as for the follow-up of patients with IBD and monitoring treatment response. 4. Cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors and knee prosthesis surgery
Sammanfattning : Adverse effects of cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitors on bone healing have previously been demonstrated in diaphyseal fracture models in animals. In spite of that, they are widely used as postoperative analgesics in orthopaedic surgery. After joint replacement, a bone repair process starts at the interface between bone and cement. LÄS MER
5. Evaluation of polysucrose 15000 as a marker of intestinal permeability
Sammanfattning : Polysucrose (PS) is a synthetic copolymer of sucrose and epichlorohydrin, which can be produced in a variety of molecular sizes. The aim of the study was to evaluate the functionality of PS 15000, mean mol wt 14700, as a marker for intestinal permeability to macro molecules. LÄS MER
