16. Nitrogen and Redox Metabolism in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Sammanfattning : Anaerobic conversion of glucose to ethanol by the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae has been studied. Glycerol is formed as a by-product in order to maintain the overall redox balance. LÄS MER
17. Metabolic regulation of nitrogen fixation in Rhodospirillum rubrum
Sammanfattning : Nitrogen, along with carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, is amongst the most abundant elements in all living cells. The capability to convert atmospheric dinitrogen to biologically usable nitrogen compounds is only found in some prokaryotes. LÄS MER
18. SBR-technology - use and potential applications for treatment of cold wastewater
Sammanfattning : Biological nutrient removal is used as an indicator of SBR performance at nine different SBRplants operated for a long period at low water temperatures (5 – 10oC). Typically needed aeratedSRT (Solids Residence Time) for complete nitrification is found to be in the range of 6 – 10 days. LÄS MER
19. Molecular detection of abundance and activity of marine, symbiotic, N2-fixing cyanobacteria
Sammanfattning : Marine primary productivity in large parts of the oceans is supported by nitrogen fixers (diazotrophs). Richelia, a genus of multiple closely related species of heterocystous filamentous cyanobacterial diazotrophs, are often found in symbioses with a few genera of diatoms. Several Richelia species: R. euintracellularis, R. LÄS MER
20. Free-Vehicle Benthic Lander Technology for the Study of Biogeochemical Processes in Marine Sediments
Sammanfattning : Various sediment sampling and incubation techniques were used to characterize benthic biogeochemical processes important for an improved understanding of the oceanic carbon cycle. Recent flux data from the Arctic Siberian shelf are revealing differences (often by a factor of ten) between areas affected by the big Russian river outlets (high fluxes) and areas with low influence from land (low fluxes).
