1. Sequences and games generalizing the combinatorial game of Wythoff Nim
Sammanfattning : One single Queen is placed on an arbitrary starting position of a (large) Chess board. Two players alternate in moving the Queen as in a game of Chess but with the restriction that the $L^1$ distance to the lower left corner, position $(0,0)$, must decrease. The player who moves there wins. Let $\phi =\frac{1+\sqrt{5}}{2}$, the golden ratio. LÄS MER
2. Impartial Games and Recursive Functions
Sammanfattning : Interest in 2-player impartial games often concerns the famous theory of Sprague-Grundy. In this thesis we study other aspects, bridging some gaps between combinatorial number theory, computer science and combinatorial games. LÄS MER
3. Acquisition and control in basic and applied physics : methods and means in some instrument development projects
Sammanfattning : Advanced instrumentation for experimental physics, be it basic or applied, involves to an increasing degree, the use of complex analogue and digital electronic components. This is especially true for nuclear and particle physics where massive data acquisition systems are being developed. LÄS MER
4. Incidence, emergence, persistence and mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance : in clinical isolates and normal microbiota
Sammanfattning : The increasing resistance rate to antimicrobial agents is of global concern and needs to be readily addressed. Options for successful treatments of infectious diseases are becoming limited due to the spread of resistant strains and resistance genes in the clinic and in the community. LÄS MER
5. Beta-lactam and metronidazole resistance in the Bacteroides fragilis group
Sammanfattning : The Bacteroides fragilis group organisms are anaerobic gram-negative bacilli. Ten species are currently included in this group. Members of the B. fragilis group are the major constituents of the normal colonic microflora and the most commonly encountered anaerobic bacteria in clinical specimens. LÄS MER
