1. Computational studies of nickel catalysed reactions relevant for hydrocarbon gasification
Sammanfattning : Sustainable energy sources are of great importance, and will become even more important in the future. Gasification of biomass is an important process for utilization of biomass, as a renewable energy carrier, to produce fuels and chemicals. LÄS MER
2. Interaction of Ni with SiGe for electrical contacts in CMOS technology
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the reactive formation of Ni mono-gernanosilicide, NiSi1-uGeu, for contact metallization of future CMOS devices where Si1-xGex can be present in the gate, source and drain of a MOSFET. Although the investigation has been pursued with a strong focus on materials aspects, issues related to process integration in MOSFETs both on conventional bulk Si and ultra-thin body SOI have been taken into consideration. 3. RhPt and Ni based catalysts for fuel reforming in energy conversion
Sammanfattning : Although current trends in global warming are of great concern, energy demand is still increasing, resulting in increasing pollutant emissions. To address this issue, we need reliable renewable energy sources, lowered pollutant emissions, and efficient and profitable processes for energy conversion. LÄS MER
4. Growth of Ag/Ni Thin Films and Multilayers
Sammanfattning : Fundamental studies concerning the relation between growth conditions, microstructure and internal stresses of polycrystalline Ag/Ni thin films and multilayers, as well as the relation between growth conditions and the structure of highly oriented Ni films, were performed. All films were depositied using ultra high vacuum based de magnetron sputtering. LÄS MER
5. STM studies of epitaxial overlayers formed by metal deposition : Mo on MgO, Ni on SiC and Sn on Si
Sammanfattning : Magnetron sputtering and molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) have been used to deposit metallic overlayers on semiconducting and insulating materials such as Mo on MgO, Ni on SiC(0001) and Sn on Si(111). The layers have been annealed and characterized with scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), low energy electron diffration (LEED), refiecti ve high energy electron diffraction (RHEED) and atomic force microscopy (AFM).
