  1. 1. Motion analysis of the knee : kinematic artifacts, EMG normalisation and joint forces

    Författare :Daniel L Benoit; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Knee; tibiofemoral joint; kinematics; anterior cruciate ligament; ACL; bone pin; markers; neuromuscular adaptation; electromyography; normalisation; skin movement artifact; joint forces; ski injury; ski boot;

    Sammanfattning : The non-contact anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is the most common and serious debilitating knee joint injury in male and female athletes. To create an ACL injury paradigm that will lead to improved treatment and prevention it is necessary to understand how ACL injuries occur. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The normal and ACL deficient knee : an in vivo three dimensional kinematic and electromyographic analysis

    Författare :Dan K Ramsey; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Knee; Tibia; Femur; Tibiofemoral contact points; Tibiofemoral kinematics; Anterior cruciate ligament; ACL injury; Knee brace; Knee instability; Bone pin; Magnetic resonance imaging; NM; Neuromuscular adaptation; Electromyography.;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to describe the in-vivo 3D kinematics of the normal and ACL deficient knee. Baseline data from normal controls were compared against the pathological knee to assess whether generic functional knee braces reduced abnormal displacements. Moreover, 3D bony contact movements were derived from MRI data. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Biomechanical and neural aspects of eccentric and concentric muscle performance in stroke subjects : Implications for resistance training

    Författare :Mattias Hedlund; Britta Lindström; Peter Sojka; Ronnie Lundström; Carl-Johan Olsson; Jan Lexell; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; fMRI; Isokinetic; Motor imagery; Muscular strength; Resistance training; Neurological rehabilitation;

    Sammanfattning : Muscle weakness is one of the major causes of post-stroke disability. Stroke rehabilitation programs now often incorporate the same type of resistance training that is used for healthy subjects; however, the training effects induced from these training strategies are often limited for stroke patients. 4. 4. Studies of diaphragm fatigue and dysfunction

    Författare :Peter J Radell; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Diaphragm function; contractility; fatigue; oxidative metabolism; 31phosphorus nuclear magnetic spectroscopy; ultrasonography; prolonged ventilation; compound muscle action potential; myopathy; electroneurography; muscle fiber; morphology.;

    Sammanfattning : Diaphragm fatigue and dysfunction are important components of acute and chronic respiratory pump failure. We lack knowledge about the nature of diaphragm fatigue and the pathophysiological and morphological changes that occur in the diaphragm after prolonged mechanical ventilation. This thesis studied two aspects of diaphragm function. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Genetic studies of zebrafish muscles : clues to protection in muscle disease

    Författare :Nils Dennhag; Fatima Pedrosa Domellöf; Jonas von Hofsten; Tatjana Haitina; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; zebrafish; muscle; extraocular muscles; intermediate filaments; bioinformatics; genetics; CRISPR Cas9; oftalmiatrik; ophthalmology; cellforskning; cell research;

    Sammanfattning : Muscular dystrophies (MDs) are caused by dysregulation of over 40 proteins but commonly share features of muscle weakness, myofiber death and regeneration, loss of ambulation and premature death. A MD involves a broken link anywhere in the connection from extracellular matrix through the sarcolemma to the sarcomere. LÄS MER
