11. Biomechanical and neural aspects of eccentric and concentric muscle performance in stroke subjects : Implications for resistance training
Sammanfattning : Muscle weakness is one of the major causes of post-stroke disability. Stroke rehabilitation programs now often incorporate the same type of resistance training that is used for healthy subjects; however, the training effects induced from these training strategies are often limited for stroke patients. 12. Rehabilitation for persons with epilepsy : assessment of a comprehensive rehabilitation program
Sammanfattning : Epilepsy is one of the most common serious neurological disorders with an estimated prevalence of approximately 0.5%. In addition to the obvious medical risk associated with epilepsy, psychosocial consequences may be extensive. These can include problems related to different comorbidities and disabilities as well as cognitive impairment. LÄS MER
13. Screening of cognitive functions. Evaluation of methods and their applicability in neurological rehabilitation
Sammanfattning : Screening of cognitive functions Evaluation of methods and their applicability in neurological rehabilitation Caisa Hofgren, Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology/Rehabilitation Medicine, The Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg, Göteborg, SWEDEN Abstract Assessment of cognitive functions is of great importance in neurological clinical settings as well as in rehabilitation. A cognitive screening test is short and comprehensive and can be used in various situations. LÄS MER
14. Outcome after modern neurosurgical care and formalised rehabilitation following severe brain injury
Sammanfattning : Aims: The overall aims were to evaluate the results of the treatment concepts for severe brain injury including decompressive craniectomy (DC), early rehabilitation and long-term follow-up, primarily according to the psychosocial consequences of the brain damage and life satisfaction. The first study was a cross-sectional study to assess and compare the consequences for outcome for two groups with severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) or subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH), one group that received early, long-term formalised rehabilitation and the other that received late or no formalised rehabilitation. 15. Functional brain imaging of sensorimotor dysfunction and restoration : investigations of discomplete spinal cord injury and deep brain stimulation for essential tremor
Sammanfattning : The nervous system exists to generate adaptive behaviour by processing sensory input from the body and the environment in order to produce appropriate motor output, and vice versa. Consequently, sensorimotor dysfunction is the basis of disability in most neurological pathologies. LÄS MER
