21. Cloning and characterization of neuropeptide Y receptors of the Y1 subfamily in mammals and fish
Sammanfattning : Neuropeptide Y (NPY) is an abundant neurotransmitter in the nervous system and forms a family of evolutionarily related peptides together with peptide YY (PYY), pancreatic polypeptide (PP) and polypeptide Y (PY). These peptides are ligands to a family of receptors that mediate a wide range of physiological effects including stimulation of appetite. LÄS MER
22. On the Site of the Lesion in Konzo : Clinical and Neurophysiological Studies on a Non-Progressive Upper Motor Neuron Disorder
Sammanfattning : Konzo is a permanent spastic para/tetraparesis occurring in undernourished populations in Africa relying on insufficiently processed bitter cassava, which contains cyanogenic compounds, as staple food. Its pathogenetic mechanism is unknown. Our studies aimed at clarifying the lesion in konzo. LÄS MER
23. Systemic hypothermia after spinal cord injury : An experimental study in the rat
Sammanfattning : Spinal cord injury following trauma results in suffering for each individual independent of the severity of the neurological deficits. Care of the acute spinal cord injured patients has developed from the purely conservative treatment advocated 20-30 years ago to today's active strategies. LÄS MER
24. Molecular evolution of the neuropeptide Y receptor family : Insights from mammals and fish
Sammanfattning : Most genes in the genomes of vertebrates form families with multiple members that are more or less closely related. This thesis concerns investigations of the neuropeptide Y (NPY) family of peptides and the family of receptors to which these peptides bind, the NPY receptors. LÄS MER
25. In search of lost disease : Clinical, qualitative and imaging studies to investigate long-term effects of autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation for multiple sclerosis
Sammanfattning : With the introduction of autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) for the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS), there are now individuals living without experiencing disease activity of MS. Are they cured? There is a need for terminology to describe the state of these individuals. LÄS MER
